Quick question

Good afternoon all. Just a quick question.  I had a lumpectomy and sentinal lymph node removal last Thursday.  The plaster covering the lymph node wound has come off today. The steri strips? Are still there, I can see dried blood under them, but is it OK to shower without recovering them? I'm 11 days post op.  Thanks in advance xx

  • Hi and thanks for the post

It depends a bit on whether there are any gaps in the wound, as the water will most probably take off the steristrips. If the wound is healed you can always cover the area after the shower with a soft dressing or plaster to protect the area and for your comfort if necessary. If you have any doubt, just cover them with a plaster first.

Although the nurses at your hospital may not get back to you immediately, you can always try calling the ward for further advice as they will also have your details to hand.

There is some more information here on your operation and recovery  that may be helpful to read.

I hope you are making a good recovery , but if you would like to have a chat about anything, please do give us a ring on Freephone 0808 800 4040 ,the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best
