Prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment

My husband was diagnosed with cancer and decided to proceed with brachytherapy and hormone therapy. I wasnt with him when all this happened as I was working away for some time. Now, 5 months on his PSA has come down from 12 to <0.04 which is awsum, but he is absolutely struggling with genital pain almost all day long despite prescribed pain relief which he is weaning. So I'd really like to know if this pain was to be expected as he only expected initial pain. The pain is so bad he says it feels like he wants to rip off his genitals. How can I best support him?

  • Hello Louwil

I'm sorry to hear that your husband has previously been diagnosed with prostate cancer. I'm sure it was an anxious time for you both.

Your message doesn't seem to have been posted in full but from what I can read it looks as if his PSA has come down and that he's having a positive response to the treatment he has received. This is good to hear!

If there's anything you wanted to chat through with one of our nurses you're most welcome to give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm (excluding bank holidays).

My best wishes to you both,
