Prostate cancer aged 40

Hi All, I have just joined this site. 2 weeks ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I have been told that I am quite young for this kind? After my biopsies I became quite unwell and was taken in to hospital with an infection, discharged few days later only to get another infection and back into hospital, discharged again then caught another infection, luckily not admitted again as temp was not too high. I am not seeing my urologist specialist till the 7 of September. I have also had an MRI but not a CT scan, should I have had one of these scans? I would appreciate any help and advice, kind regards, Paul

  • Hi Paul and welcome.

Nearly seven years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My psa was 70 and gleeson was 3+3=6.But with two years on hormone therapy and 37radiotherpy sessions my psa came tumbling down to the lowest they can measure at 0.01, and even now it is still only 0.91 so take heart from my story Paul

In answer to your question, I can only say after my boipsy I had both an mri and also a ct scan done to see if the cancer has escaped from the prostate capsule. Luckily it hadnt.

You have been unlucky to have had so many infections. This is why they dont operate a screening program for men partly because of the risk of infections after a biopsy.

I wish you good ttreatment like I had from my medical team who were briliant, kind and considerate.

If you have any questions, I will be pleased to help. Best wishes to you and your family, Brian.

  • Hi Brian,

Thanks for your reply and kind words. I am sure I will be bugging you some time down the line.

Wish you and your family all the best of luck.

    Regards, Paul

  • Hello Paul,

I thought I would make you aware of this thread - Mark is also in his forties and has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Feel free to respond and share your story with him if you wish.
