Prostate Cancer advice prior to injection

Hi my husband has a psi of 18 he is going for the hormonal tablets then injections followed by external radiotherapy. Having read about the side affects any advice to minimalise them would be appreciated please.

  • Hi,

Just want to say everyone reacts differntly. I had no real problems with the radiotherapy. Just bought some Imonuim instants which helped a lot. I was told when I got towards the end of my radiotherapy I would probably feek tired, So I did as I was told and if I felt tired I just went and laid down for a while and afterwards I was okay.

The hormone injection gave me the most problems, I put on weight and had problems with hot flushes. I gave my dear wife an opotinity to say, "Now you know what us women have to put up with".

They say that some men have mood swing because of the injection. I found I would suddenly have tears in my eys for the sillyest of things. I had no control over it and I felt very embarassed about it  for men arent supposed to cry. .

I'll tell you something to make you laugh now. They give the injections to the lower abdomen. and as its a big needlde they put some cotton wool on top of the site and stick it doen. Well they stuck it to my Short and Curlies and when I treid to take it off later, boy was that painfull. My wife said are you still trying to take that off let me have a look. Wrong thing for she got hold of the corner I had lifted and ripped it off all in one go!!!!

When I came down off the ceiling she said that was fun, can I di it again, I dont dare write my reply

Still makes my eyes water just thinking about it

Over all My PSA come right down from a high of 70 to a low of 0.01 the lowest they could measure so it was a very effective treatment. Yes I had side effects but I told myself they were a small price to pay for the results Ive had. I hope your husband had good results too so please let us know how he gets on, Brian.
