But i still wondering what possibility to have baby after cancer/ chemotherapy? As i will have my appointment on 13th and im soo scared..

  • Hello Zaiiikaa and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn about your mum’s situation and that you now need to have investigations for a breast lump. I can appreciate that as you are BRCA1 positive this makes your situation more stressful.

Unfortunately it is not possible to say with any certainty what your chances of having a pregnancy are if you were to need chemotherapy treatment. There are several factors that would need to be taken into consideration in this situation, the two main ones being age and the type and dosage of chemotherapy given. The younger a woman is the more likely it is that her ovaries will recover after chemotherapy.

Fertility is something that is routinely discussed with young women who develop breast cancer.  We have information on our website here on the options (such as egg freezing) in relation to preserving fertility. The breast cancer charity Breast Cancer Care also have information on fertility issues and treatment on their website here.

There is a very useful information booklet on the website of the Royal Marsden Hospital for people with a family history of BRCA that you may find helpful. It covers many issues that people affected by BRCA face and has links to useful services and further sources of information.

I hope this lump turns out to be something non-cancerous.

    With kind regards,

    Mary
