Post partial glossectomy and selective neck dissection

I am nearly at my one year remission point following a partial glossectomy and selective neck dissection on June 16th last year. I wanted to know if it's normal or common to be experiencing pain and discomfort in my tongue, face and neck still following the surgery. My tongue is particularly painful still. I have had to leave my teaching career for the time being as it's too painful and difficult to talk all day. I would really like to be able to chat to people who have been through the same thing. I feel quite isolated at times because of what has happened.

  • Hello Marker18 and welcome to the forum.

I'm glad to hear you've almost reached the one year mark for being in remission although I'm sorry to hear you are still experiencing pain and discomfort in your tongue, face and neck. Have you made your medical team or GP aware of this? If not do make sure you let them know as they will be in the best position to help.

There are a few members here that have been through this as well and hopefully they will reply soon to offer their advice and share their experiences with you. One member that comes to mind is the lovely [@Vatch]‍. He has been in a similar position and is very helpful so now that I've tagged him in this post I'm sure he will post when he can to offer his support and guidance and help you connect with others on the forum too.

I hope this helps Marker18 and remember that whenever you feel alone we are always hear to chat :)

    All the best,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Thank-you Steph. I hope to get some replies very soon. I have recently gone back to work and am therefore unable to attend my head and neck cancer recovery group where I was able to ask questions to others who have been through the same or similar.
