Possible large ovarian cyst??

Hi

New to this forum and have read and found everyone to be very caring anf helpful.  :)

So....my hospital found an incidental cyst in my abdomen during a echiocardiogram.  Within the space of 5 weeks I have had an US scan on abdomen, MRI on pelvic area and a CT on abdomen/pelvic area.  I do have quite a large abdomen but no pain or other symptoms to speak of.

Anyway, I did go and see my gyneacologist after the initial US scan who ordered CA125 an tumour marker blood tests (I havent to date received these results after nearly 4 weeks so thinking no news is good news?) However I did get sent for a CT scan after they were taken.

I am still waiting for CT results after 2 weeks and am getting extremely anxious and scared each day.  My close friend died of Ovarian cancer a few years ago and fear this may be happening to me.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Cathy xx

  • Hi Chinatree and welcome to Cancer Chat.

Waiting for results is always tough but if you're worried about how long it's been you could always try chasing up the results with your doctor.

Many of our members have been in this position so hopefully some of them will pop by soon to offer their advice but fingers crossed you'll get some answers soon.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Steph

Many Thanks for your reply.  I have tried to call the hospital as they are the ones that referred me directly; my doctors surgery dont have copies of any letters/results yet.  I cant seem to pinpoint who my consultant is as I have only been to the womens health care clinic once and saw a trainee!

I find it a little frustrating/worrying that I havent been kept informed along the way as to why I have had all the various tests, but Im sure all will become clear soon.

    Will keep you posted.

  • Hi Cathy,

I had stage 3/4 ovarian diagnosis back in February, and since then 3 rounds of chemo, laporoscopy, partial tube removal and drains on abdomen. I had no real symptoms until the fluid started building up on my abdomen and it was agony down my sides. The ultrasound was a preliminary look, probably quite easy and immediately shows if there is a big cyst, then the ct showed more detail and combined with the blood tests etc. the diagnosis was made.

I am not saying this to concern you, but I do feel that without the (limited) family history I had the doctors would not necessarily have taken my (self) diagnosis quite so seriously. The 21cm cyst was drained and biopsied following a ca125 level of 1386 (now down to 304). I would have thought that you could find out your ca125 level by making a phone call to the hospital or surgery, but that is not necessarily defining the diagnosis. I think from what you have said though it would be reassuring to you to know what that number is if nothing else.

A four week wait sounds like a horrendous wait, but chase it up as it must be a worry.

I don't know if this has been a help but it is surely good to know that you are not alone and that even if something is found, there is hope of a suitable treatment. I hope they find nothing worrying in your case, I am sure if they had found something that needed urgent follow up they would have booked things in a bit quicker for you.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, be strong, be positive

  • Hi

Thank you so much for sharing your story; to say it must have been a shock for you is an understatemnt, but at least you are getting the treatment you need now and hopefully will make a full recovery :)

As my close friend died from OC a few years ago, I have (possibly prematurely) prepared myself for the worse and will deal with whatever faces me. I am experiencing no pain whatsoever so I would have thought that if my results were of extreme concern I would have hard something by now but who knows.

Thanks again and please keep me updated with your progress

    xx

  • Hi So today is the day I receive my results! Also have a biopsy booked in on Thursday. Very scared now Xx
