Pleurx drain for ascites

26 Sep 2018 06:38

Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone has had experience of a permanent drain for ascites. Unfortunately, mine has built up extremely quickly over about 4 days. My team have suggested a pleurx drain so I can manage the ascites myself.

The other thing that worries me that after 9 weekly Taxol treatments, why suddenly now? I assume it's stopped working, which really scared me. I've had a CT scan and ca125 blood test, so I shall soon find out.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has been in, or going through a similar situation.

Thanks

Jan

Lovely to hear from you again Jan, although I'm sorry that ascites are continuing to cause problems for you.

We have some general information about PleurX drain on our website but if you have any other questions playing on your mind about this procedure do give our a cancer nurses a call next week. I think I may have given you their number before but just in case I haven't or you can't find it, their number again is 0808 800 4040 and lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m

You may also want to join in on this recent discussion I've found on the forum where other members with ovarian cancer have been discussing ascites.

All the best,
