PET scan after throat cancer treatment

Hi Friends I was just wondering if there's a high percentage of patients who have had a clear PET scan after there treatment or if any patients still had cancerous cells and if yes what happens then. I ask this because I had my PET scan yesterday and for some reason I'm very nervous even though through all my treatment I've been very positive and optimistic. I had tonsil cancer had the tumour removed along with the tonsils and 7 weeks of radiotherapy, but now though I'm like a bag of news and cannot stop thinking about it , I do know this is unreasonable. Any advice or what other people went through would be very appreciated. Thankyou for listening

kind regards Debbie

  • Hello Debbie09

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling so anxious after your PET scan on Tuesday. Scanxiety, as it's been nicknamed, is a very real and normal part of the process and I think that many of our members here will be able to empathise with how you're feeling.

It really can help to talk things through with someone and I'd encourage you to speak to your specialist nurse if you have one or to chat with one of our nurses. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support that they can to help you cope with this period of waiting. If you'd like to chat with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Debbie and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
