Penile cancer

Be diagnosed with penis cancer plus couple of lumps for extra thrown in waiting for hospital has any one out there had penile cancer thanks john .

  • Ok John, I'm female, so no, but five years after breast cancer I'm cancer free.  Thinking of you

  • Hi Ballylopin, I had this. Thankfully caught early on the glans of the penis. Minor surgery on penis and sentinal node biopsy. Now on 3 monthly follow ups, comprising ultrasound of the lymph nodes in the groin and a physical examination. So far so good. I am unlikely to have a recurrence but this does not stop me worrying when scan time comes round. Good luck, Harry

  • Thanks Harry helps a lot John

  • My husband has this and needs a total penectomy but ct scans show may have spread to.lymph nodes so needing a biopsy during his op if it has will need further surgery to remove lymph nodes a worrying time

  • A very traumatic time for you and your husband. I got off relatively lightly, although I still have the worry of regular check ups and scans. Lymph nodes are key because most forms of penile cancer spread via the lymph nodes. First the groin, then the pelvis, then other organs. Even If it has reached the groin lymph nodes your husband still has a great chance of a cure. It gets more difficult if it has spread to the pelvis lymph nodes.

  • Hello Harry, i hope you don't mind my cutting in, as i've just registered and am trying to find my way around the forum....

i've been seen by two urologists just today (a relatively small raised plaque of approx 1cm in diameter, a CT scan that shows no spread), and i'm waiting to be called by a penile cancer surgeon in the next week for a biopsy to confirm (though the GP and Urologists have all either looked concerned, or described themselves as concerned, so i'm assuming it's PC).

I'm hoping that if it is PC that it's early stage (I only noticed it about 6 weeks ago), but I'm keen to hear from anyone about their experiences of the biopsy, whether it was an excision and margin or resurfacing procedure, and most important of all, if they are still sexually functional or if there are issues I need to contemplate.

Will stop now, but many thanks to you and others on these pages for taking the time to talk so candidly and constructively about something that must be very difficult to re-live. GH.

  • HI GH61. Sorry to reply so late. I missed your post. I had resurfacing. I'm fully functional sexually and am very satisfied with the outcome. I know, from my own research, that this is the case for almost all men in my situation. I hope it all worked out as well as possible for you.

  • Hi Harry, many thanks for your reply. Very glad to hear of the positive outcome at your side. You have the worst of it behind you now .... I had 2 minor ops, have a small defect as a result, but am 'happy' with the outcome, and functional in all respects .... Some psychological processing to be still managed, though. Best of luck with your follow-ups and scans.
