I suggest that a better place to look for help is the Citizen's Advice Bureau. They can offer you free advice and guidance on issues such as this, and they will have more experience. I suggest a Google search for "Citizen's Advice Bureau" should find your nearest branch. You can then phone, explain your issue, and make an appointment with an advisor.
The only thing I can add to Renata's and Telemando's posts is that MacMillan have a benefits advice service which may be able to help. I found our local advisor was brilliant and extremely helpful. Their website will help you find your nearest advisor.
