Partner has salivary duct carcinoma. I am worried and lonely

Hi all

This is my first time posting here. We have known since October that my partner has cancer. Initial biopsies showed undifferentiated carcinoma of some variety. After further scans showing a lot of activity around the parotid/lymph nodes on one side, he had an operation in January that removed his parotid gland and the lymph system on one side. Of 35 glands removed, 34 tested positive for cancer.

He began radiotherapy this week, and we've actually only recieved the 'proper diagnosis' today

As it's so rare, we haven't been able to get much information. Is there anyone here who has similar? Our consultant had only seen one case like this in 10 years. Everything I've read online is really worrying in terms of prognosis.

    Hi PeacockButterfly,

I am so sorry to hear about your partner’s diagnosis. I am afraid that I am of little help to you as I have a rare form of breast cancer. I can however suggest that if you go up to the blue banner at the top of this page and click on the search button and, then insert this type of cancer, it will bring up previous posts on this topic There are 888, so you'll have a lot of reading!

I hope that his radiotherapy is going well and that you find some of these posts helpful. Many sites are poorly researched and inaccurate. I know that it is only natural to look things up on the internet, but please stick to reputable sites only, otherwise you’ll scare yourselves silly.

Please keep in touch and let us know how he gets on. We are always here for you whenever you want to talk.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
