Partner diagnosed with ACC

My partner was diagnosed with head and neck cancer in nov 14 we were told he has adenois cystic carcinoma in his salivery gland under the tounge with secondary Mets in his lung. He 40 and this was a major shock for us he had major surgery at the beginning of jan to remove all the lower half of his jaw and full reconstruction with a bi later discection on the lymph glands . He's not long got his tracky and NG tube removed and is healing quite well. Our biggest worry now is the unknown he's not getting radiotherapy as they think the side effects will outway the benifits chemo is not an option either so we're left with check ups and hope. We know this cancer is not curable but the info we get is speculation at best as no one seems to know much. They will treat as and when required to say we are terrified is an understatement

  • Hi Dodger 123,
I am sorry to see the reason you have joined the forum. It is good news your man is making a good recovery from surgery.  Do you have supportive friends and family?  I ask because I found it helped to talk about things.
I know no one can forecast the future but from your post is seems you have unanswered questions that your medical people have not addressed.  Would it be an idea to write them all down and ask them?  Another idea would be to seek a second opinion.
Would your GP be able to help?
Please let us know how you are both going.  This is a great place to rant/rave and people do understand.
I hope you are looking after yourself too that as well is very important.
Thinking of you and sending a virtual hug,
    Kathy
