Palliative radiotherapy for brain tumours

I hopefuly have 5 sessions of daily palliative radiotherapy for the brain booked as from next week  Has anyone else had this and did it improve confusion?  I will be having chemo and herceptin too and wonder if I will be able to cope with the side effects afterwards?  I have only had targeted radiotherapy before (about a year ago) and presume this will affect me differently as it is not targeted and will affect the good cells as well as bad this time  I would appreciate any information  Thank you  Max56

  • Hi Max,

No direct experience of this but presumably it won't be as heavy duty as the orginal targeted treatment...one would expect that if it shrinks the beast a bit it will reverse the symptoms. Ray found that increased levels of morphine caused a fair bit of confusion for him  - mainly struggling to find the right word or taking a bit longer to pick up on new info. I have to say though from your message you don't seem too confused at all.

It is lovely to hear from you, I am sure many will agree.

    keep fighting that fight girl

    best regards sueps

  • Hi Max, so good to see you on here. I have been wondering how you are and I see they are looking after you. I don't have any personal experience with your planned treatment, but my sister-in-law had radiotherapy for the brain and it did help with the confusion she was having. She was also having severe headaches too and it alleviated the headaches as well. She didn't mind the treatments at all. She also was on other drugs too, but I don't recall what they were.

I'm waiting for an apt. with my oncologist since my CT scan last week. I saw my family doctor yesterday and he had the report from it. (When I have any scans, X-rays, etc. I have all the doctors involved with any of the cancers I have, copied in on the reports. I am involved with several and I want to make sure each of them knows what the rest are doing with my treatments, etc, so they don't have to repeat them.) The news I got from my family doctor on the scan is not good, but I'll wait until I see the oncologist to see what she has in store for me now.

Max, you are on my mind a lot dear friend and I am wishing peaceful days for you with the better weather coming up. I think our seasons are somewhat similar, although I believe our winters may be harsher than yours. Just know that you are always in my thoughts and prayers. When you can, let us know how it goes for you.

    Sending hugs.

  • Hi Max, I wrote a long reply to your post and while it shows on this page, it doesn't come up on the main page. I'm posting this short message to try and bring it to the front. This is weird! It sometimes happens to me that the post just disappears totally, but this has never happened before.

Anyway, I want you to know I'm thinking about you and hoping the radiotherapy they are planning for you will bring you relief of the symptoms you are experiencing.

You are in my thoughts and prayers my friend.

    Sending hugs.
