pains after radiotherapy

Hi everyone, I haven't posted on any sites before but I am a bit concerned about pains in breast and arm as well. I have been reading some of your posts which seem to apply to my symptons as well. Was diagnosed last August, had lumpectomy in October and went through chemo and radiotherapy from November to beginning of April.  Even though the chemo knocked me for six the radiotherapy I seemed to sail through had the redness and burnt skin and irritation but no tiredness at all.  Lately I seem to be getting stiff in the arm and pain in the right breast I haven't seen anyone about it yet as I thought it might be the normal thing, any ideas, cheers Mouse

  • Hi Mouse and welcome but sorry you are having troubles after your treatment.

I didn't have chemo after my bilateral lumpectomies but did have radiotherapy, which finished a month ago.

If you had a sentinel node biopsy done during your op then the stiff arm could be down to Lymphodema which I believe is fairly common after this kind of procedure. I would suggest that you contact your breast nurse for advice and/or reassurance.

I too have the breast pains and was told by my oncologist that this was quite normal after radiotherapy and it can take quite some time for the tissue to repair itself but, if you are concerned, again your breast nurse is probably the best person to speak to.

I hope this helps a bit and, as I said, I am sorry you are still suffering.  Take care  Sue x
