Painful lump outer area of breast

hi just looking for some advice, around one month ago I visited my gp and mentioned I had a tender lump which is not quite on armpit  just kind of outside of it around the middlebut on outer area if breast, hard to explain doctors said not armpit and not quite breast either. I saw a nurse two weeks later and was told there was no lump and was given a to optics because it is so painful she said burst access or cyst. Obviously antibiotics didn't work so went back to doctor last week and she found the lump straightaway as did the senior gp, it is around 1.5cm and she said it was soft but not a cysts, access, lymph node or infection. So I'm quite worried now it's extremely painful to touch especially during the night it wakes me up and on a morning after waking, not sure whether it's because I'm busy doing things during day but I have been touching it a lot, I have been referred to a breast clinic, I am 26, everything appears normal everywhere else according to nurse that couldn't find the lump during a full breast examination she said it was my rib, I asked the doctor if it was in my rib she said no but it feels like there's either bone or muscle running along into breast and the lump is near the end before the armpit, generally I'm ok i do have a lot of joint aches etc which I saw doctor for the first time but took lot of blood and everything came back normal, I'm aware that cancer is definitely a possibility bug wondering if anyone has had a similar experience, the pain feels like a very bad bruise and sometimes stings, thankyou

  • May I add lump is under skin and nothing visible to see but is easily found

  • Hello

sorry that you have had to go through all that.Im glad you have finally been referred to the breast clinic now you will have an answer to whats causing all the pain.

I have had breast cancer i was 36 when i was diagnosed.I cant speak for all the other lovely ladies on here but wanted to say that i didnt experience any pain in my breast prior to diagnosis it was only sore after the biopsies.

i hope you have your appointment come through soon.Meanwhile try not to dwell on things and let yourself worry about the what iffs and dont google!

I hope you keep in touch with us and let us know how you get on xx

  • Thankyou I will. Hopefully get letter tomorrow I was referred last Thursday, I'm trying not too worry just hurts a lot even to slightly touch most of the time but how sure can the doctor be that it isn't a cyst or abscess it certainly feels like one but neither doctor knew what it was, just googling too much and probably imagining symptoms such as being itchy today reading about lymphoma, hopefully it's none of those things as I have two children and do often feel weak and tired but that been going on over a year now so hopefully unrelated

  • I understand,i have 3 children myself my youngest was only 20 months when i was diagnosed. Its more them your worried for i know that.

Try to stay positive and keep busy doing things you enjoy.

I do hope your letter arrives tomorrow

    take care ness x

  • Hi,

Could you tell me what the diagnosis said? I am kind of having the same problem now.

  • Yes I am also having very similar symptoms so would be very interested in what your diagnosis was in the end. I just keep getting fobbed off by gp

  • I felt like that too . Had a lump 6 months ago and was sent for scan . Lump didn’t show up but the consultant admitted it was there and said it was fat or gristle. I forgot about it but have since had nipple pain , shoulder and back pain in the same side . I was curious so felt the lump and it’s grown . Lump doesn’t hurt but when I press it I get collar bone, shoulder pain and a little under under my arm pit  . It’s on  the edge of my breast but quite  deep where it meets the chest wall . I’ve just had pneumonia and my chest was clear at the x Ray . I haven’t lost any weight so it must be a fatty lump . I don’t want to go back to the doctors because I dont want to be seen as a hypochondriac.

    Wishing you all the best

  • Did you ever find out what it was? I had breast cancer in 2016. I had mastectomy and reconstruction followed by chemo and everything was fine but now I can feel a hard lump on the outer side of my reconstructed breast. Almost feels likes it’s on a rib bone rather than the breast itself. It doesn’t hurt unless you press it but it is really worrying me now. Had it a few weeks as thought I’d perhaps banged it without realising as that’s kind of what it feels like, but it’s still the same.

  • Hello, I know I'm a bit late to the chat but I wondered what the outcome for you was as I am experiencing the exact same thing at the moment?

  • Hi

i posted in the same thread as I had the same problem. I would say get it checked. It's probably nothing but I left mine a month or so as I was told the chances of mine coming back after mastectomy and chemo was 1  - 3% but unfortunately mine had come back. It had found a small area to the side of the implant  to come back. As I left it it was found in a lymph node too. I had another operation to remove the tumour and I'm now having chemo again.  I really really don't want to frighten anyone as mine was just bad luck and I posted on here hoping I'd get reassurance. The only way to know for sure is to get an appointment. Don't let them fob you off either. When we rang my breast nurse said it was probably just a swollen lymph node. You know your own body. Trust your instincts. Good luck xx
