Pain in armpit - previous Breast Cancer

I had Breast Cancer back in 2013 - left side

Had half my lymph nodes removed at biopsy stage - all negative

Chemo, mastectomy and all clear

due to COVID not had my yearly check-up -,and not one booked for this year

I now have a pain in my left armpit - there is no lump, and it comes and goes

Dull ache that when its there lasts all day – no pattern and nothing I can put my finger on that could trigger it - been going on for about 3 weeks

Has anyone else had this ?

  • Hello Dilly,

i have just come online to search the forums with the same problem.

I originally had triple positive BC, right side, no lymph nodes, clear margins after mastectomy. I was NED April 2020 but carried on with radiation and herceptin.

To be honest my scars/chest area has never stopped hurting right from diagnosis, through treatment and after surgery, I put it down to nerve damage but for the last few days I've now had numbness down my arm and cramping feeling in my hand and pain in my armpit and ribs. I'm worried.

  • Hi Louisa

I had the same back in 2013 .. my scares felt strange for a few years.. it was weird no feeling to touch, but in the mind just a funny sensation

Just make sure you ask questions..

I'm just worried .. After 7 years I have a pain, not a sensation and its only just started..

I had herceptin.. and been happy

Doctors are useless at the moment due to covid.. not been able to get a call back

Louisa .. speak to your consultant please x

    Hi Louisa and Dilly,

I am sorry to hear about the changes you are both experiencing. Have you tried to contact your breast care nurses? They should be able to arrange an appointment at the breast care clinic to get yourselves checked out.

I agree that it is difficult to contact your GPs at present, but they are still there for you. They may give you a telephone consultation first of all, but they can still see you if they deem it necessary. Please follow up these changes, if only for your own peace of mind.

Remember that we are always here for both of you, so please stay in touch.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
