  • Hi Shellbell 10

Sorry to hear your starting Paclitaxel I will b on my 5th on Wed so far mostly just the fatigue bit of a flush to my face on the night of treatment and next day.  Also dry mouth and bit of a metallic taste but wears off. My  treatment is weekly  though, I'm having 18 sessions.  My main side effect is not getting much sleep but that's down to steroids have to take for 3 days following treatment day where some is given through the canular as well!  My treatment takes 4 hrs but that is extra time for the cold cap.

Wishing you all the best let me know how it goes.

  • Hi shelly,

I had 9 cycles with paclitaxel, 3 more to go. What can I say about this drug? On top of the previous side effects, this drug made a mess of my nails, hands and feet. I have stabbing pain in fingers and toes and most of the nails turned brown, some black. It gave me insomnia as well and I don't take any steroids at home, just the ones during the treatment. The cycle is short, about 2 hours for prep & drug, no cold cap in my case. I'd say the worst side effect is the low white cell count neutropenia. The treatment was delayed 3 times so far because of it.

Good luck with your treatment. I hope you'll get through it easily.

    X blue

  • Thank you Blue for replying. I've just finished eribulin because it stopped working and paclitaxel is my last option. My onc said she would find it difficult to find something else. I've read lots of people get neuropathy and bad pains in legs, also bad diarrhoea. So not looking forward to it. Good luck with your treatment, hope it works for you. Good luck and big hugs,

  • Hi Cutie, thank you for replying, sounds like your having a rough ride as well. I just explained to Blue bout my chemo, so I won't write it again. Steroids keep me awake too. I've got sleeping tablets of doc but sometimes I can be wake lol night on them, thinking of asking to higher the dose. I've got secondary bc with bone, liver and omental layer mets and just developed a huge lump in my breast, the opposite one to my primary.  Will let you all know how I get on. Good luck and hug. Hope everything works out for you.

    love Shelly.xx

  • Thanks Billy, she's just sent me a post, I've replied. Like to know what I'm letting myself in for lol. Not looking forward to it. But have no choice. How are you Billy, hope your well. Big hugs,

  • Just thought have you been on docetaxel I know you probably have just curious. It's what me and [@marj58]‍ have been on it's not a very nice one, but it does work its the side effects that's problems, hope to hear from you soon. Once you wake up (Marj sleeps alot and writes alot as well) God bless, love.... Billy

  • Hi Billly I do sleep a lot, oh and when I do wake I certainly do chat, I make up for the times I sleep lol xxx

  • Hi I am Marj or  the one Billy told you about, I sleep a lot and chat a lot lol. Billy is correct about Docitaxal. It one nasty drug but it does work. I will warn you though it will make you ill, but it’s worth it in the long run. Anyhow it’s worth chatting to oncologist about. Wishing you well. and fingers crossed xx
