Ovarian cancer

I have recently been diagnosed with a large ovarian cyst 13cm which has solid mass. My CA125 bloods were low '13' but my CT scans indicates ovarian cancer and some fluid in obdominal lining.  I dont have a MDT meeting till 15th May. Is this too far gone. Im so scared. I now am feeling lots of pressure lower down. Im just so worried. What will treatment plan likely be. Im only 44 and until this point had hardly any symptoms.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Tower.

I'm sorry that your CT scan indicated ovarian cancer. Many of our members know how scary it is to find out they have cancer so hopefully some of them will pop by soon to offer their support and advice but I hope this information we have about ovarian cancer and the treatment options will help to put your mind at ease a bit.

Do give our cancer nurses a call if you'd like to discuss your situation with them as well. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

Wishing you all the best for your MDT meeting next week tower.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Tower,

I'm sorry you are going through this and just wanted to reach out as my situation is very similar.  I'm 42 with a 13cm mass in my abdominal area (not sure what it is attached to yet but likely an ovary) and, like yourself, I've had hardly any symptoms.  I'm currently waiting for CT scan results (scan was nearly 3 weeks ago). The waiting is torture.

I can't offer any insight into treatment etc but just wanted to offer support and let you know that you're not alone. If you ever want to chat, let me know.

Hope all goes okay on the 15th.

  • Hi Tower,

It's normal to be scared.  I'll have everything crossed for you (and Saldo too).  It's a terribly frightening time.

I am 40 and was diagnosed suddenly last September, whilst on a trip to the US.  That was an expensive claim for my travel insurer!  I had no obvious symptoms either.  Looking back now though (I'm a diary writer) I can see that I'd felt a lot of tiredness (which I'd put down to getting older and a stressful job, plus a divorce), some intermittent indigestion and, just prior to diagnosis, pains around my left hip and in my calf (I'd thought I'd strained them doing body pump at the gym).  Turns out, I had pulmonary emboli and stage 4 ovarian cancer.

Since then, I've had a full hysterectomy and six rounds of chemo.  I'm on Avastin for maintenance now and.....hurrah.....in remission.

My advice is to find someone that you can open up to about everything, your worst fears and the things that you think are terribly silly.  I found talking about it helps - saying things out loud has helped me to feel less lonely and let out the fear, the tears and the anger.  Waiting for results makes me feel like I'm riding a rollercoaster, in the dark, without being strapped in and after having had a huge Sunday lunch and a bit too much wine.

    I'll be thinking of you.

  • Hi Tower

Hope you don't mind me asking but how did the MDT meeting go.  I'm in a similar situation and awaiting results from bloods and CT scan App my case was due to be discussed today but so far heard nothing.

    Xx

  • Hi Tower123 & Kindred1977,

I was just wondering how you both got on following the MDT meetings?  My CT scan results were sent to my consultant on 17 May but he has been on leave so I haven’t heard anythingyet.  Hoping that my results will be discussed at their MDT meeting next Wednesday.

I hope you are both doing okay.

  • Hi all. My MDT was upsetting. I have to have a full hysterectomy and removal of my omentum layer in my abdomen. They have also seen a lesion on my liver so a liver specialist needs to be involved in the surgery.  They have said they may need to take some liver, possibly my spleen and maybe some bowel. Im devastated and also really worried about the surgery which is yet to be booked in. x

  • Hi Tower123,  thank you so much for your update.  I’m really sorry to hear what lies ahead and can only imagine how you must be feeling right now.  Wishing you lots of strength and a quick recovery after surgery. x

  • Hi Tower,

I’m so sorry to read your news.

I am 45years old, 3 1/2 weeks post op from a full hysterectomy, I had a 20cm cyst on the right ovary and a 5cm on my left, cells were found in the omentum and 2 lymph nodes.

it sounds like you have more to deal with but I just wanted to say that after surgery, the recovery gets easier, you improve for a day or so then plateau, then improve again. I try to look back at the week before and realise how much has improved. It’s tough, but with good support from those closest to you, it’s ok.

I’m going to be having chemotherapy and am meeting with the oncologist on 12th June.

I know each person is different but if I can help or support as a fellow novice in all this, let me know.

    Good luck lovely, T xxx

  • Hi Tower

My scan was 12.5.19, the MDT meeting was 16.5.19 and I am seeing cons 29.5.19 for results.  I'm feeling ok at the minute as the secretary said if it was very serious he would of want to see me sooner.

    Fingers crossed x

    Hope your ok

  • Hi Tower, I just wanted to check in with you.  I hope your surgery went well and you are doing okay.  I had to have a hysterectomy too and am now having chemo.  What a year this has been!  Take care, S
