Ovarian and transvaginal ultrasound result borderline????

Hi, I'm 19 years old and a week last Tuesday I went to the doctors for a pelvic ultrasound to look at my ovaries due to irregular periods (I first started the in 2012 and now in 2017 they are still not regular!) anyway while I was there they said they wanted to do an internal one as well. They said to either ring up of book an appointment for a weeks time.

So the following week I rang up on the Tuesday and they told me to ring back the next day because although they got my results the doctor hadn't commented. The same thing happened on the Wednesday and Thursday. On the Friday they said the same thing again that the doctor hadn't commented yet. I got them to chase it up that day and they rang me back with a comment of "borderline" from a gp. The receptionist then said I need an appointment to speak to the doctor. She booked me in for an emergency appointment the morning after the bank holiday weekend.

Should i I be worried. What does borderline mean with regards to an ovarian ultrasound??

Please help x

  • Hi littleone97,

I'm not sure what time your appointment is tomorrow but I just wanted to give you our cancer nurses telephone number as they may be able to help with this. Their number is 0808 800 4040, which is free from a UK landline, and are available Monday - Friday (except bank holidays) between 9a.m - 5p.m so if you can do give them a call before you go.

Good luck for tomorrow and let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

  • I'm there tomorrow for a chat with the doctor to see what this 'borderline' means. Hope your news is OK and I'm actually nervous about the unknown x

  • Hi, could i ask what borderline meant in your case? I have been told my ultrasound is borderline but i cannot speak to a gp till tomorrow afternoon and my mind is running away with itself. I have absolutely no idea what could be borderline from an ultrasound. Thanks in advance

  • Hello I hope you don't mind me commenting I've just been told my pelvic ultrasound is borderline but I need to make a routine appointment with doctor and it's not until four days and I'm panicking. Could anyone shed any light on what their borderline ultrasound meant? Thank you in advance

  • Hi, mine came back as two cysts in the left ovary. One was a simple cyst which should apparently clear on its own. The other was a borderline size cyst. I had a locum doctor call me at the time who wasn't willing to divulge much information. He just stated that the size wasn't worrying as of yet but was a borderline worrying size and they will scan again some time down the line to make sure it hasn't grew. Try not to stress (easier said than done) hopefully they give you some clarity and peace of mind soon!.

  • Thank you so much for your reply and so quickly. I'm glad your result was as it was, it gives me comfort to know it wasn't something you should need to worry about! I've googled a lot about cysts and it seems they can clear on their own, or be removed simply if it's needed , did you experience any pain with yours? I've had continuous bloating for over a year, pain in the ovary and back pain

  • Hi,
