Oncofocus test or oncologica test

Hello everyone

Hope you are doing great, just joined this forum to get opinion of you lovely guys, actually my mum is diagnosed with vulvar cancer stage 4,its a malignant type and has spread to various parts of body like lungs, left adnyxal.she had excision, radiation done but both didnt work to stop it from spreading, now physicians are recommending chemotherapy for her,she is really afraid of it for side effects, therefore we want some therapy or anti cancer drug for her with least side effects.

Just come to know about oncologica genes test, which can match a specific cancer to 690 of modern anti-cancer drugs called targeted theropies.

I want to get opinion of you everyone, should we go for this test,or if someone already had it done ,how much it helped him/her

Kindly share your experience and opinions

Thanks in advance.

  • Not familiar with some of the terms you are using but I believe that specific cancers are matched with specific drug protocols and you don't get to choose other than whether to proceed or not.
I personally regret having chemo for lung cancer (Cisplatin and ????)  Still suffering permanent side effects including chemo brain and peripheral nerve damage to my fingers and toes.
I also believe that my cancer spread to my brain because of the chemo.  Of course we'll never know for sure but essentially I was so disappointed in the advice my doctors gave me I am reluctant to follow their advice in future.
I had no personal experience of 'cancer' previously so no anecdotal information.  Since then I tend to mention my terminal state to everybody I meet (including complete strangers) and it is suprising how many tell me of friends and relatives who refused cancer treatments and are still alive 5 / 10 / 15 years on.
Having said that my mum developed leukemia recently and was offered chemo as a palliative treatment.  I actually tried to talk her out of it (she is 98) but she went ahead and her symptoms have improved a great deal so I am glad she went ahead.  In the end it was her decision.
Whatever your mum decides . . .I hope you support her decision.
    All the best
    Tams
