Not all news is bad news

Dear all,

I am under the breast clinic because I have LCIS which is abnormal cells in my breast lobules. It was found incidentally when I cad a 5 cm fibroadenoma removed. I have posted before regarding this as I have been told to be breast aware in-between yearly mammograms. To cut a long story short I have been found to have alot of benign breast changes, fibroadenomatoid change, micro calcification, micro cysts, PASH like changes and post surgical change . I have dense breasts even at 51 so after my last mammogram, ultrasound they decided to do an MRI. I was of course worried as my breasts don't feel normal at the best of times. I just thought I would tell you that despite my breasts feeling not like they used to the breast surgeon has told me all the changes on MRI are benign. They will keep an eye on me but I hope this helps anyone waiting for results . Try not to worry as we forget sometimes that there can be good news.

Thinking of everyone waiting for results, try and stay positive, and remember what ever happens we are in good hands.

Best wishes from Guinea pig lover.

  • Dear Guineapig lover, I've just read your post and it made me feel much better. I'm in the first few days of a two week wait and despite trying to stay positive, my mind keeps dragging me back to the 'what ifs', but your post reminded that it doesn't necessarily mean bad news just because I've been offered a face-to-face follow up.

I was told I'd either get a phone call with the results, if there was nothing to worry about, or a follow up appointment if they needed to speak to me or run further tests. So when I received the letter yesterday with an appointment I instantly feared the worst. I've only told two people and they both think that as it took two weeks to get the letter and the appointment is in another two weeks, that it can't be anything serious and is more likely to just be a chat. I'm still finding it hard to imagine why a busy consultant would want to waste time on chatting with me, but your post has made me hopeful that it may be something similar as I have had issues before, so maybe some advice about more regular mammograms (I was told I'd have to have yearly mammograms after my first biopsy 8 years ago when I was 42, but that never happened, so maybe they plan to do that now)...anyway, thank you for the positive post.

    Best wishes

    Cherry x

  • Dear Cherry,

From my experience if they don't contact you immediately and you have a wait ( I waited a month from my breast MRI ) it's something not of immediate concern. They were upfront with me when they found the suspicious calcification which infact was tea cupping benign calcification on the mammograms after further imaging There's alot more that can go on in ones breasts other than the big C. Sometimes it's not easy to read the images especially on dense breasts. Consultants do ring even if stuff is benign and also see you in person , try not to read to much into it. Benign breast disease also needs checking. Looking on the bright side they are taking care of you and and being thorough, if anything is found it will be caught early and will be easier to deal with.

Take care , so glad they are taking care of you.x

    Best wishes Guinea pig lover.

    Hi Guineapiglover,

Thank you for your reassuring post. Although only 20% of people who attend the breast clinic, end up with a cancer diagnosis, we don't often hear from those who get good news. This skews the results on  this forum and often makes people who are just starting out on this journey feel more nervous.

I am sorry to hear that you have had so many other issues with your breasts and am glad to hear that the clinic is keeping an eeye on you. Here's hoping that all remains benign and thank you or giving our newcomers some hope.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • HI Cherry,

I am glad to see that you now have a date to get your results. This is always a worrying time and, irrespective of the results, you'll feel better when you know for certain.

I sincerely hope that you get good news. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

Thank you for your kind words and support. I just wrote on another post about what a great community this is...it feels like such a caring and supportive place. I hope everyone who is in need of support, those awaiting results or undergoing treatment, as well as those who are worried about others, I hope they all find their way here and feel less alone, and more supported.

Thank you again, your kind words really make a difference xx

    HI Cherry,

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 13 years and have found this forum to be of real help when I needed support. People often find that they can speak to strangers here more openly than they can to family and friends. We've all been there, so we know what you're going through  and are here to support you in any way we can.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
