non hodgkins lymphoma blood cancer

Anyone on here in remission from non hodgkins lymphoma blood cancer?i had diffused large B Cell stage 2,had Rchop chemo, anyone had side effects left by the chemo?thanks xx

  • Hello,

Wecome to Cancer Chat. I am sorry to hear that you have Lymphoma but it is good to hear that you are in remission. I have FNHL, a low grade B Cell lymphoma and have had RCVP 10 years ago and Rchop 4 years ago followed by R maintenance for 2 years. You ask if if there were any long term side effects. For me I have been left with nerve damage to my feet and cataracts that the opticion feels most likely to have been caused by the steroids. Other than that all is fine.

How long is it since you finished treatment? Things do get better as time goes by and a lot of the problems do go away slowly.

    Christine.

  • Hi I was diagnosed in April 2016 with exactly the same cancer as you.  Had 6 courses of R-chop and an now in remission.  Only side effects I've had are more susceptible to infections, had pneumonia in November and recently got a weird skin infection which my dr said was due to a weak immune system.

    love to exchange experience

    Hi

Sorry to hear you have had lymphoma but glad to hear you have overcome it and now in remission :-) My mum was diagnosed with the same lymphoma large diffuse B cell stage 2 last month. She had her first chemo yesterday the R-chop same as you. I just wanted to ask as you've been through it yourself what kind of side effects did you experience during the treatment? I know everyone is different and it can vary from person to person but it would be helpful to know from someone who has had the same chemo and been through it. Kind Regards Shammi

  • Hello,

main symptoms during r-chop were tiredness, mouth ulcers, things tasting different.  Nausea.  And during last couple of sessions I felt sick during the administration of the drugs.  Also got a couple of nasty doses of cellulitis which led to hospital admissions and intravenous antibiotics.

obviously lost hair too.  Well hair started to drop out after first dose of r-chop so I shaved my head.

Actually I expected to feel worse than I actually did.  I'm 61 by the way.  Your mum should have been told what side effects to expect.   Hope this helps a bit x

  • Hi there,

Thanks for your reply, yeah that sounds about right with the side effects, yeah she was told what to expect but l thought it might be helpful to ask someone who has been through it like yourself.

Ah did you get cellulitis that's not very nice but as long as it got treated and you got better. It's an awful disease hopefully one day there will be something kinder than chemo that only kills the cancer and not the good cells.

That sounds positive though overall that it wasn't as bad as you thought it would be l think chemo has come on a long way through research. I'm glad your better now and in remission and you can get on with life.

Thanks for your response, that's really helpful XX

  • Hi I had the same lymphomas 2 years ago. Six courses of r chop and now on maintenance therapy. It took me a long time to lose the weight I had gained but my main problem is now I have really bad teeth, was wondering if anyone else has also had problems with their teeth long term. TIA x
