  • Welcome to the forum Jonathan although I'm sorry to read that you've been turned down for carers allowance.

I know you're wanting help with this so I just wanted to put you in touch with carersuk as they have a section about this on their website. You can call them on 0808 808 7777 if you would like to chat to them about this as well.

For general financial advice it may be worth getting in touch with Macmillan as they have financial advisors you can chat to. If you feel this would be useful, you can contact them Monday - Friday on 0808 808 0000.

I hope this helps and you're able to get the support you need to look after your parents.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hello, this is an awful situation for you.  I do hope you will take Steph's advice and contact MacMillan Cancer Support to help you sort this out.  Time and again I have read on these pages that MacMillan have sorted ou financial difficulties for carers and cancer sufferers.  Sometime I think just about everyone who applies gets turned down automatically and they wait to see if the applicant is going to appeal before taking a real look at it.  This is hard and sad work for you; do they not realise how much it would cost if it was  necessary to bring in outside trained help to care for your parents.  Instead  you are sacrifing your career and social life and you are suppose to get nothing! Please get the help you need without delay and - but only if you wish - let us know how you get on.
