Newly retracted nipple.

So im currently 2 weeks  post partum, 26 yesrs old and noticed last week that my left nipple has started to retract slightly almost like cave in on itself on one side. I went to the drs on Wednesday and the dr could see also the problem so has referred me to the breast clinic. Dr could not find any lumps or anything else. I today received my appointment for 13th October so just under 2 weeks time. My question is, is this likely to be breast cancer? I'm a first time mum with a brand new little girl so as you can imagine I'm so so worried I just keep crying at the thought of what my new little family will have to go though if its something sinister.

I'll add that my nipple doesn't stay retracted, its mainly after ive been wearing a bra! If I take my bra off or don't wear one it looks okay! It is flatter than my other nipple but not retracted all the time. I am also not breastfeeding so I know its nothing to do with that. I know no one can say for definite that it's nothing to worry about but has anyone had any similar experiences?

Thank you xx

  • Hello Margaretk94,

You've done the right thing in going to the doctor's on Wednesday and it's good that they are being thorough and have referred you to the breast clinic. It won't be long now until your breast clinic appointment. Try not to assume that this is cancer as there are so many other things it could be especially as you gave birth only two weeks ago and there are so many hormonal changes you might have gone through. You will be in good hands at the breast clinic and hopefully you will find out more about what is causing this soon.

There is useful information on the Breast Cancer Now site on what to expect at your breast clinic appointment.

I hope that everything goes well for you on the 13th - I will keep everything crossed for you! Hopefully you will hear from others on the forum who have had similar experiences and that they will be along shortly to share their stories with you.

    Best wishes,
