Newly diagnosed invasive ductual cancer help ?

Hi there,

I got diagnosed with invasive ductual cancer, treatment operation followed by radiotherapy & cancer hormones drugs waiting for Her2 to come back and after operation when they will take some lymph node to find out if spread and if I need chemotherapy, hopefully not.

They give options on a mastectomy or partial one, I opted for partial one they said he may come back just don't know if I have made the right decision, so much to take in any advise would be really welcome or any through or going through the process and treatment please ???

thsnk you do much xx

  • Hi Ncd,

I was diagnosed 6 weeks ago, I had a lumpectomy and all my lump nodes above my left breast removed 2 weeks ago. The surgeon was able to get clear margins around the lump, by removing the cancer and healthy cells around the tumour, which meant she could conserve my breast. After surgery the pathologist report showed that of 26 lymph nodes, 15 were cancerous and the cancer had travelled all the up the left side under my collarbone, that came as a shock as pre-op, they had thought only 2 lymph nodes were infected. I had an anxious wait for CT & Bone Scan results and had tried to mentally prepare myself for the cancer to have spread, miraculously both scans came back clear. I now have a treatment plan, chemo 6 months, radiotherapy 1 month and 10 years of drugs and although a little daunted, I am determined to beat this, faith, hope and lots of love & support, can conquer anything.

keep your chin up, one day at a time ( trying to do that too!) I will be keeping everything crossed for you.

  • Hi Sandie,

Thank you so much for replying especially as you have been and going through so so much. I am so sorry to hear your news also but it sounds you are super positive and pragmatic, ahh bless you xxx

Goodness you have been through the wars but the info you have provided me is invaluable. I am not sure if operation dates as yet supposed to be within 2 weeks.

so do you think the lumpectomy was the right option? My lump is 3.5-4cm so yes they will have to take some more just working out our best options ???????

we must keep in touch, shall I private msg you ?

I am thinking if you and wishing you so much love and hugs take care speak soon

  • Hi

i have been diagnosed on friday with invasive ducal breast cancer. Very big shock as lump had only appeared a week earlier. Was thought to be a cyst which I had previously had. I have been told it is stage 2 and will need a mastectomy. Feel scared and tearful. Main worry is my children who I told today. Have op in 3 weeks and have to isolate for two weeks due to COVID. Any advice greatly received. Thanks x

  • Hi,

please do pm me and we can have a proper chat.

My advice would be to trust your consultant, just what

are the pros and cons of lumpectomy or mastectomy and then you will be in a better position to weigh up which option is right for you. My tumour was relatively small at 2.5cm so the surgeon knew that where it was there was plenty of room to take healthy cells too - this I think reduces the risk of reoccurrences.

The waiting for me was the worst bit, once you knew what you are up against, it is much easier to get your head around.
One day at a time, deep breaths and don't give up hope, modern medicine is evolving all the time.

  • Hi,

I am about 3 weeks ahead of you on this rollercoaster journey, I have stage 3 Grade 3 and now have a treatment plan, the waiting for me was the worst and so far lowest point. My advice would be to take one day at a time, trust your consultant they know what they are doing. I found some breathing techniques that calmed me down, trying mindfulness too. I was given an adult colouring book and found that was a fab way to take my mind off things, when I just needed to switch off.

i will be keeping everything crossed for you.

  • Thank you

i have a mastectomy on 5th aug have to self isolate for two weeks before. Telling my children has been the worst thing I have to do in all of this. 13 and 14 years old. Do you take  any supplements or eat a special diet I’m trying to see if there is anything that I can do to help Pitt henodds in my favour

I hope everything is going well for you. Thank you for the tips about breathing

  • Hi,

Im so sorry to hear your diagnosis, please may I ask, what were your symptoms?

    beat wishes xx

  • Hi there,

I had no real symptoms only a dull ache in right breast and awkward bra strap, so I checked it and felt a lump rock hard, rang the GP, they seen me that day and referred me. They said most likely a cyst. Seen a breast clinic 3 eeeks later they did a mammogram, ultrasound & took 2 biopsies and put a mental marker inside the tissue. They said them is looked of concern and it could be cancerous but until biopsies come back not sure. 2.5 weeks after they confirmed it a grade 2 invasive ductual cancer. Give me a treatment plans and now I am still in shock waiting for the operation date.

It feel as if I am talking about someone else!! My emotions are everywhere getting cross a lot I have 2 children under 10. If this is what I am like now!! Not sleeping at all, had to let work down today and say I can go this is so unlike me I am never off tomorrow bar annual holiday.

the waiting for the operation is hard, arguing with my partner as he says nothing he has spoken about this cancer for about 1 hour over the last month!! So looks like I am facing all this alone he is zero good

sorry to rang going to bed at 4 am the last week can't sleep or eat, just hit me what's happening

so sorry ladies chocolate teapot this week!!!

    Hi all

I got my op date for a few days time to remove the lump and breast tissue & lymph nodes then I should know what treatments follows.

i hope everyone is doing ok?

  • Hi all,

Bit further along then you all, I had mastectomy on 21st may with expander fitted after being diagnosed with high grade dcis which had gone to the lower part of right breast. Thankfully lymph nodes was clear so I dont need further treatment.

The surgery for me was a lot easier than expected..I was imagining all sorts of things but when I woke up I was fine and it just looked like my normal boob minus the nipple... bit sore but never took anything more than a couple of paracetamol, sleeping on my back was the issue because it didnt feel natural.

I didnt have a drain fitted.

Everything was going fine until my body decided to reject the implant 2 weeks ago and I was admitted to hospital with sepsis..removed the implant so now just left with skin until reconstruction....even that is not as bad as I thought with softies you cant even tell.

I'm just glad it is out x

I have 3 children 16,9 and 2 and the youngest calls it mams poorly boob and is fascinated..I think trying to keep positive for them really helped me get through it.

The ladies on here a fantastic support as well.

I wish you all well with your surgeries and treatment

Let us know how you get on or if you want a rant
