Newly Diagnosed : Gastric Adenocarcinoma

Had my outpatients appt. with original hospital's Gastro consultant - they have found a tumour in the top area of my tummy near but not exactly at the junction of the oesophagus but are hopeful that although already 3cm in size it is not quite "game over" for a number of reasons, not least my general wellness overall otherwise. Have been given prescription for protein meal drinks to build up my muscle mass in case surgery is required (very likely I should think and the rest!) Still have to have the Thorax CT scan and outpatients appt. with Oncologist but seems to be a single localised tumour only, i.e. nothing showing elsewhere in abdo/pelvis area so finger's crossed that is truly it for now !

  • Hello Cornishscot,

Welcome to the forum. It sounds as if you're approaching this with a positive mental attitude and I know that lots of our regulars here will agree that that can be really important in handling everything that comes with a diagnosis of cancer.

Do you have a date for your CT and outpatients appointment. Hopefully that will give you some firmer answers going forwards about treatment.

I'm sure that some of our regulars will be along soon to say Hi and share their stories with you. If you feel at any time that you would like to talk with one of our team of nurses then they are available Monday-Friday 9am-5pm on 0808 800 4040 (free to call from a UK landline).

Stay in touch Cornishscot and let us know how you get on with your appointment.
    Best wishes,

Welcome to the forum - sorry to hear your news. Good luck with your chemo and with getting your results from the Oncologist, fingers crossed that it hasn't spread.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Davek

Wow Wow yours is such an incredible journey and story.  Just happy that you are doing so well long may it continue.

I lost my much loved husband to Junctional Oesophagus Cancer September 2016 aged 60, can't believe that I have just typed that.  I miss him so so much no words.  Everything went wrong for him along his journey.  Told curable then not so etc etc.  Was given a full response to treatment Easter 2016.  Had a CT scan end of May result given by Oncologist early June. He was told all was well just a small amount of fluid around the left lung in chest cavity but nothing to worry about inflamation from treatment and would settle down.  Just a few weeks later felt so unwell, but no one would listen, he was told he was over anxious, had ibs, had musculaskoletal - pain from being tense.  Had a swelling come up right side of stomach again ibs and then hernia.  Oncologist agreed hernia nothing to worry about.  He then had an unbearable 7 weeks so ill, lost so much weight he was unrecognisable, 3.2litres of fluid drained from around right lung, 3 days later 1 1/2 litres drained from around left lung. Given months in his liver, the fluid etc all cancerous, had 28 days and passed away - heartbroken.

So its good well not good as I would not wish this disease on anyone, but you have been looked after by your doctors.  Long may it continue for you I wish you all the very best.  Amazing, so everybody I know how difficult not the word really it is to be told about cancer but don't give up and if your not being listened too shout shout and shout change doctors and refuse to leave until someone listens to you and more importantly acts on what your saying.
