Newbie - Stage 3c Bowel Cancer

Hi, I'm Alison, 52, happily married and have 2 bengal kitties, completely bonkers but lovable hubby and newly married beautiful daughter. I also have bowel cancer T3N2M0. Had a colonoscopy in June where they found a friable mass which was either diverticular or cancer, turned out it was cancer. I've had lots of tests and scans during the last 2 weeks including a PET scan yesterday, I'm having surgery on 5th August. Staying positive most of the time but have a wobble every now and again. I'm a paper crafter but my creative mojo has flown out of the window. I'm worried about staying in hospital, that it's going to really hurt after the op.  Also rather disappointed that my kidney donor card carrying days are over as they don't accept from people who have had advanced cancer - I've carried that card for 30 years, been on telly promoting it and everything.

  • Hi, im 53 and the same staging as you Dukes C..operated on 28th April, now on adjuvent chemo..... Hang on in there, its this time of testing, waiting for scan results, waiting waiting and waiting for a plan etc that is the worst... They will probably put you on enhanced recovery, which will mean your stay in hospital will not be a long one, mine was a right hemicolectomy which meant i woke up without a stoma.... You dont have advanced cancer, its stage 3, and with adjuvent chemo your survival rates are good...also remember you arent a statistic, you are you....an individual.... If you want a good interactive forum please go to the 'Beating Bowel Cancer' forum, theres 100's of us on there and a wealth of information.... Youll be ok, you allow yourself to wobble a bit its good for us to allow ourselves to not be strong sometimes.... If you want any info on whats going to happen re op or anything please let me know Xxxx

  • Thanks MistyAlpine, will join the BBC forum :) xxx
