New to Forum & am seeking advice

Hello everyone I'm new to the forum but am so glad I found you after reading how caring & helpful you all are.

i was diagnosed with lung cancer end of December & finally had surgery 6 weeks ago. I see the chemo oncologist tomorrow as to which chemo I'm having & when it will begin but have been told it will be asap. I will also be having radiotherapy once chemo ends.

I had a Lobectomy in my right lung plus many nodes removed even though my surgeon told me & my husband that if the tumour was attached to the cavity wall once he opened me up that he would not operate & close me back up. Thankfully he went ahead with surgery.  Like my fellow lung cancer patients I had the injection every day for 14 days into my lower belly to stop clots forming I take it, but i found 2 lumps around the lower belly area a couple of weeks ago & today found a third. Luckily my McMillan nurse rang to see if she had booked yet to come out & see me tomorrow, which I replied no. She said she would be over to see me tomorrow in the chemo unit to catch up with me. I enquired about these lumps & the fact they feel like the glands that are also up in the front & back of my neck. She did mention the injections can cause them but they should of shrunk or be gone & not have any more come up & that they really do need checking by the consultant tomorrow..

Can anyone help me with regard to these lumps as I am worried & feel so alone as I don't know anyone with cancer where I live who I could speak to.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post & I do prey every day for every one who is living with cancer or has loved ones with cancer.

Clair xx

  • Hi Littlewhitedove,

Welcome to this great forum. I cant answer your question but just wanted to say you have done the right thing by joining this forum. I am someone who never thought I would ever join a place like this but came across it over three years ago when I was looking for info about prostate cancer on the Cancer Research main page and have been on here since and have talked to some wonderful people on here. I often liken it to belonging to a large extended family and I hope you fine the same.

Take care and I wish you all the best, Brian.

  • Thank you Brian for your reply & so rapidly. Just your reply helps to know that someone else is their for you no matter any advice that can or can't be given.

im sorry to hear you have had prostate cancer, as no matter which cancer it is at the end of the day it's cancer.

It was my husband who told me about the healthboards as I confided I do feel lonely with not having anyone else to chat with who knows what it feels like to have cancer. I've lost so many loved ones to cancer but actually having it yourself is so different.

i had a scare back in 2013 due to my very rare bone disease & the chances of getting a bone sarcoma but it was a false alarm so it was a shock to be told I had cancer in my lung.

Anyway I look forward to catching up with you again Brian as it does feel like a family.

  • Hi Clair,

Yes I have had and recovered from prostate cancer and I have also like you lost several lost ones to cancer. I was very lucky in that my wife pushed me into going to see my GP and i belive that she saved my life by doing so for my PSA was 70 and I know of someone whos PSA was just a little higher and he is no longer with us. Cancer has hit my family hard which is why I have joined several charities to try and help others. Believe it or not, I also believe that having had cancer has made me a better person who is more sympathetic and understanding and also one who appreciates the simple little things in life so much more. I have surpised people when I tell them, If I had a rewind button and could wind my life back to before I had cancer, I would still chose the path with cancer.

Sending best wishes and kind thoughts your way, Brian.
