New oncologist

So my mum recently diagnosed with an adenicarcinoma (unknown primary but they are mostly sure to be colonic) that has spread some they said to her stomach with spots. After a nightmare dealing with the hospital lately we finally have a meeting with the oncologist in 2 weeks after chasing them up hard.

I tried googling the onc but came up with virtually nothing, just 2 sentences on the hospital website. The brief 2 sentences I found says the onc had specialist training (god knows what that means for an onc lol) and a specialist in GI tract and unknown primary (which pleases me)

Mums scared obviously to be expected when told they cant identify the primary, just wondering are all oncologists equal in the NHS?

Where can I look up the oncologist are there any sites? i find it odd that there is so little info about a doctor who must have treated many patients online

  • Hi deanfromuk,

I'm sorry to hear you've had a difficult time dealing with the hospital, but it's really good to hear that your mum has a meeting with an oncologist booked in for two weeks' time.

It's not unusual for there to be very little information about oncologists online, as you've found yourself when searching various sites. However, I think you can take some comfort and reassurance in the fact that the oncologist your mum has been referred to by the hospital specialises in her particular form of cancer.

I do hope all goes well with her appointment and that you can get answers to your questions about her treatment. If you have any queries while you're waiting, our nurse helpline is here to listen - you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (mon - Fri, 9am - 5pm).

Wishing you and your mum all the best,

    Helen
