New member to this site.

Hi everyone,

I am also a new member to this site after having the news that I have cancer.

I had my tonsills removed 3 weeks ago and went back to ENT for the results on Thursday, what a great Valentines to remember, I was told that the tonsills came back posative and also the needle biopsy of a lump in my neck was posative also.

I go to see oncology on Tuesday to find out when treatment starts, I am a little worried as the ENT consultant told me that they will be starting me on chemoradiotherapy, does this mean that the cancer is at a high stage or is it routine?.

If anyone can shed a little more light on the subject before I go on Tuesday that would be really helpful and also what questions should I ask.

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

  • Welcome to the site !!

Once you know what you are up against - a plan of action can be put in place, it all the waiting for results that  can be stressful.

    Good luck for next week

  • Hi Andy

As far as I understand, chemoradiation is used when it is considered to be the best treatment for a particular type of cancer. My partner had oesophagal cancer which is one of the types it is used for.  It was explained to us that chemotherapy made the cancer cells more sensitive to radiotherapy and more likely to be effective than radiotherapy alone.  Chemo is given at first followed by radiotherapy and then chemo to finish off.  That might not happen in  your case.  It is just an example.  Chemoradiation can be used as a cure for oesophagal cancer in the early stage. I realise this isn't the same as your diagnosis but I hope I have given you some reassurance.

    Best wishes
