I have just had a postive diagnosos I feel like i,m in a fog . I have to have chemo first to shrimk the tumour I just want to get started. i have a both a cat scan and bone denseity scan and appointwith oncology but waiting on an MRI appointent Anyadvice on how long before eveything gets under way

  • Jane I am guessing you have breast cancer. It is tough at first but you will quickly have the scans and then probably wait another two weeks for the results. That is the hardest part. I was so worried that within the two weeks I went to the G P after 10 days and discovered she already had the results. Then you will be given a treatment plan. It sounds as if you are having chemo first. I had my MRI on a Sunday but not sure how it will be over Christmas.

hope you get your mri soon. Keep in touch.

  • Bless you, I too have had a breast cancer diagnosis today....I know exactly what you mean about a fog.....I am veering from being very brave to having a meltdown.  I am booked for surgery jan 3rd....the staff here are second to none.....where abouts are you? Xxxx

  • Hi Jane,

i too am in the same position as you, feeling scared also. I know i have breast cancer, and will have my diagnosis confirmed tomorrow with my consultant. I also need chemo first. I have my bone scan tomorrow, mri Wednesday and ct on 27th Dec.

As this is also very new to me, I understand that your breast cancer nurse, will help to organise your scans. My tumour is approx 5cm, but will receive stage and grade at my appointment with consultant tomorrow.

i hope you get your results soon.

    X

  • Hi Jane,

Sorry you've found yourself on here, but hopefully you'll find this place a great help.

Like you I had to have chemotherapy first, my chemotherapy started a month after diagnosis.  But then I was diagnosed on the first ultrasound and mammogram, they had to do further staging tests after that, so it will just depend when all your tests come in.  I'm guessing these will be prioritised so that you can get going soon-ish.  My cousin, different type of cancer, was 8 weeks from diagnosis to starting chemo, I believe that isn't uncommon either.

The waiting in the early days is difficult, it gets easier once things start moving.

Will leave it at that just now, but you know we're here if you have further questions, or if you want to rant, scream, or whatever.

    Take care,

    LJx
