Nerve Repair

Hi,

I had Pelvic Extenerative Surgery in March 2021. I have a skin graft that runs along my bottom and underneath between my legs. The graft is soft and healed except for a tiny section that is slowly mending. I also had the lymph nodes in both groins removed.

For the last few weeks I have experienced random shooting pains in the area and a  tingling sensation when I sometimes bend over. My consultant said the shooting pains sounded like nerve repair.

Has anybody else suffered these pains post op? I get so worried that I am ill again.

  • Hi Threecats,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing these difficulties and the concerns are quite understandable. If your consultant doesn't seem too concerned then do try to take some reassurance from that. If things persist and you remain worried, it is your doctor/specialist who will be best placed to advise, so do talk things through with them. In the meantime if anyone here has similar experience to share then hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi and thanks for posting

As the surgery is quite extensive and you have had a fair amount done, it's not surprising that some nerves will have been cut during the operation and may take some time to regrow over time. This can cause similar symptoms to the ones you mentioned.

Keep an eye on the symptoms and if you feel they are getting worse or you notice anything new , do get back to your team at the hospital. It's still early days regarding the operation as it is quite a big one, especially as it also involves a skin graft. All of this can take quite a number of months, sometimes taking up to a year or so.

Try and not overthink things though I appreciate that this is hard - it's common for people to worry about pain after surgery.

Do give us a ring if you would like to talk things through with one of us here on the helpline -The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best

  • Hi.

I had neck op in March, removing lymphnodes, although not exactly same op i appreciate.

Definitely sounds like nerve issues, i occasionally get the odd strange feelings in my neck area, and still have very little feeling directly and surround area of Op.

Depending on age, also determines how quick your body will repair, but as you were maybe told, it will be a new norm? .

Stick with excercises etc they have gave you, will help in longterm.

    All the best.

    Bobby.

  • Hi Bobby,

    Thank you.

Some areas still feel numb and tingly

  • Hi Wanda,

Thank you so much for replying. I will be seeing my consultant next week - He's new - I expect him to book me a 'routine' scan as I think one is due.

I appreciate they are busy but its often hard to get a proper answer before being 'dismissed' from the appointment
