Needle Biopsy under mammogram. Has anyone else had this?

Hi everyone,

I'm due to have a needle biopsy under mammogram because they found some calcification in my left breast along with a small cyst.

Has anyone else had this done? Does it hurt? Just wondering what to expect!

  • Hi there,

Sorry to read they've found some calcification and a small cyst.
I've had core needle biopsies twice under ultrasound which I guess would be similar. They did them under local anaesthetic so, apart from the scratch at the start, I didn't really feel anything as boob was numbed. I was expecting them to tell me what they were doing a bit more, but there wasn't much conversation at all as radiographer was concentrating so intensely. Both times mine took about half an hour. Had a plaster put over the punctures at the end as mine bled slightly. Two months on and the marks are starting to fade away now; I put Bio-Oil on it them day.

I hope you don't have to wait too long for the appointment and that it goes well for you. xx

  • Hi Aswann, I had this procedure and the biopsy caused no pain though there was a strange "stapling" sensation. The mammogram did hurt a bit but it was bearable and over quickly. Best of luck for your appointment - I hope you get a good outcome.
