  • Hi don't worry to much sometimes the worrying is what makes you ill you are being seen that's the main thing, alot of people have a colonoscopy with out being sedated.. Good luck with results.

  • I no,easier said than done, but i am trying lol.. thanks alot for reply :)

  • I had a colonoscopy with entenox and it was fine. No pain at all

  • Emer I know it’s easier said than done saying it will be ok but I can understand your nerves. I’m so sorry you have lost your dad and that will be adding to your nerves but I have these regularly and they will give you some gas and air - use it. I find the week before reducing food intake and taking natural senna makes it easier as the drinks aren’t very pleasant to take, and if you do there will be less to pass if you start early on the week as you will start passing all week prior. It will be over in minutes for you and you will have peace of mind especially after loosing your poor dad. From what you have said it sounds very much like IBS, but it’s  better to be sure. Good luck with it x

  • Ah thank u so much, tat means alot... im defo gettn it checked out bcos by de time they found it wit my dad it was stage 4 and spread to his lung and liver and was too late.. ye she said sounds like ibs but jus have to be safe. Ye i cudnt drink tat drinks b4, so wat drink and  foods did u eat de week coming up to it tat helpd clear out ur bowel?os it seriously nt painful? Xx

  • Hi Emer1989

I can understand your agnst but thought I would share my experience when I had colconoscopy last June twice without sedation and was absolutely fine both times.
So a little about the procedure from my experience. I was already in hospital and had to go for an endoscopy. I had an enema which cleared the bowels then down to side area to be prepped.
Changed into a gown but kept my normal t shirt on and booked in.

Then wheeled into room on trolley and met by lovely consultant who put me at ease and explained procedure. You lie on side and he puts lube on tiny scope and then all you feel is a slight discomfort at best as goes in but absolutely no pain whatsoever. There is a nurse speaking and with you all the time as you face a camera. You can see all that is going on which I found quite therapeutic and they make sure you are comfortable and ok all time. The fact you can see what is going on is helpful rather than wonder blindly whats happening and its all very matter of fact when being done.
It does not take long at all and over very quickly.

Wheeled back into side area for short while and I was reading my ipad within 5 mins and felt quite ok about the whole thing.
All quite relaxed, at best you feel a very slight discomfort and there is no pain at all and i never had any sedation whatsoever or medication. Was diagnosed with IBS and was sorted and controlleed by steroids for few months and now totally under control.

Hope this helps a little and good luck with your appointment.

    kind regards
    Ian

  • Hi thanks so much, really helpd.. i jus hate taken any meds or sedation.. but if its over tat wuick ill do it..how long roughlybos de camera on for? Do they giv u de results der and den?

  • Hi there,

As far as I can remember the camera procedure took around 15-20 mins but seemed to be over very quick as you are distracted by the nurse and also you watching camera.

As for results they might metion if they see any harmless polyps but normally if they are taking any tissue for testing further that would have to be sent to lab and would be approx 10-14 days for results.

    regards

  • Ah ok..and they dnt giv u any medication at all in der no? Jus gas if need it?

  • I had no medication whatsoever...no gas, nothing and was all fine.

You can get gas if you feel you need and its up to you whether you want anything at all
