Need advice quite soon - Female 18

I know that there’s a lot of reasons other than cancer, and I don’t want to sound like I’m making symptoms up and making myself seem like I have cancer but I’m very worried.

Two weeks ago I started with night sweats, I would wake up so hot and thirsty, like I hadn’t drank in days. I would sleep around 8pm and then wake up at 9 ish, I wouldn’t be drenched in sweat but I’d call it a night sweat because of how hot I felt. I would wake up several times again. I went to the doctor and he wanted bloods. Two days later they came back a bit abnormal and he wanted to test my thyroid next (blood test looking for certain antibodies.)

Then a few days later i felt a hard lump in my side, painful. I had a look online and it seemed to be a lymph node. Then more appeared VERY FAST. Within a few days I had them on my groin and armpits (both sides.)

I never ever have cramps before my period so I knew that wasn’t causing the cramps I have now. The other morning I had a painful cramp/ache in the lower abdomen. I tried ibuprofen, nothing. I fell asleep finally at 3am.

Its been three days and it’s still there. This stomach ache is worse at night but overall it’s there 24/7. I can’t sleep at night, it’s 5 am and I’m very awake.

Yeaterday I went to A&E because these problems were scaring me and I genuinely thought they’d find something in my blood. Nothing. Low protein (creanitine) but he didn’t seem bothered, haematology was fine.

Now, I have extra swollen lymph nodes. My foream at the top and above my right collarbone. Also another two on my right groin (now three on each groin) I just keep finding more and more.

its scary how fast these symptoms are progressing. I don’t fancy eating, no appetite. Usually at lunch time I’m starving and excited for it, but all of a sudden that’s gone.if I don’t eat properly one day usually the next I am looking forward to food.

its bank holiday Monday tomorrow so I’ll try and get into the doctors Tuesday but I’m worried. A&E didn’t even tell me what it possibly could be, they didn’t even tell me one thing it could be.

Whenever I type this in I always get ‘non-hodgkins lymphoma’ but I’m really hoping it’s not. I just want a reason for this..:

i don’t have a fever, can’t be glandular fever. Doubt it’s  mono as I don’t share any utensils and i haven’t been kissing anyone. I doubt it’s lupus as I have  no rash.

I’m hoping someone could give me some advice. I know nobody can give me medical advice as such but im not sure what to do next ??

  • Hi there,

I have just seen your post and I'm sorry you're not sleeping, I can't sleep either . just wanted to let you know you are not alone X

I am not at all medically qualified and have no actual experience of what you're going through but in my opinion it is good and reassuring  that you went to A&E yesterday and they checked your bloods and everything ,what did they say about your  stomach ache? If stomach pain gets suddenly a  lot worse then do go back to A&E. As you are still worried,  make a GP appointment as soon as you can. I always find it helps to make a note of all my symptoms and questions to take in with me so I am not missing anything. Your GP may refer you for a scan or ultrasound

I'm sorry I don't have any further advice but do try and relax, especially as  you have so recently been checked out by A&E, easier said than done I know!

I'll be thinking of you and I do hope everything works out xx

  • Thank you so much for your response! :) they brushed the stomach ache off really

  • Hi, you are welcome! Stomach aches are  so common but  still definitely mention it to your doctor when you see him or her. It's always best to mention something if it's worrying you.

I hope you manage to get some sleep x

  • Hi ime not a dr but ime a dad to two girls at 18 it could be a hormone problem have a think is it when your periods are starting could be something like that i know ladys lo have problems on that score pluse if your worried its a vishous circle we worry then somthing caused by the worry gets worse axiaty can allso cause so many problems ime not trying to put down your problems quite the opposit anxiaty is a horrible thing if the gp hasnt checked ask a female one if they can check your hormone levels if there slightly out of wack can cause no end of probs .try to avoid google if the drs give you a diagnosis for something it great then you can look up treatments but so many try what your doing and it comes up you can have nile fever or anything that then makes it worse and you end up with health anxiaty but if it was my daughter i i would ask about your hormone levels .paul

  • If your symptoms persist, keep going back and pester. Lymph nodes swell when fighting infection. I hope you get sorted soon. x

And stop looking at Dr Google as my GP says..... it scares you to death!

  • Thank you all for commenting. The GP wasnt too bothered about the joint pain and abdominal pain. She found a few lumps in my breasts which are painful. The lymph nodes in the armpits are swollen too. She thinks they are cysts and has prescribed me some antibiotics to make them go down, 4 times a day for 14 days. If they don’t change she will refer me to a breast clinic.

The lymph node in the neck has gone down but the ones in my groin and armpits haven’t.

im trying not to over think and take each day as it comes.

ill update this post in two weeks.

im grateful to have a response :)

  • Hi there

I’m no doctor but what I can tell you is that I’ve had both glandular fever and breast cancer. I had lumps and pains all on my underarms and groin etc and throat was swollen with glandular fever. I was also extremely tired and exhausted, but never at any point did I have an actual fever.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I had no symptoms at all other than a small lump. No pain, no stomach aches, no tiredness.

As hard as it is try not to overthink it and keep calm otherwise you will feel worse through stress and lack of sleep.

Hope you get to the bottom of it and feel better very soon.

    Rozza xx

  • Hope you are back to normal after the antibiotics. If not keep at them!

If you have to go and get checked out at the breast clinic maybe mention other symptoms while you are there, make a list. I have found they are good at refering you to other departments to get checked out.

You have age on your side too, I know bad things happen to younger people too but the older you get, 50ish the more common.

All the best, keep us updated.
