Need advice

Hi I don't really know where to begin, so two months ago my Nans skin turned yellow and we thought she had gallstones so dr made her a hosp app which she went to they done ultra sound and felt her stomach, the dr said he thinks it is cancer but would need to run more tests to confirm, so two days later on the 17th April she had a Ct scan and blood tests, the results of the Ct scan showed she had a shadow on her lung as well :( but they couldn't tell about the liver. All of a sudden it seemed they forgot the initial reason why we was there and seemed more concerned about her lung, she had a lung biopsy on May 1st She also had a MRI scan on 7th of May and was meant to be getting results back for both on the 19th but instead they changed that date to having a stent put in to her liver to drain the poison. Baffled as to why they never done that or a liver biopsy before anything else as she was only symptomatic for her liver. The biopsy came back to confirm cancer of her lung but we have no letters from hospital to state what type etc and they seem slack and even calling to help with answers. After that we had a call to say she needed to have a pet scan as the MRI has shown something on her spleen. We still had no clue what was going on with her liver at this point! So on the 27th May she went to have a pet scan the dr had said to us if it's in the spleen there would be nothing that they could do, if it isn't and results come back that there is another cancer on her liver but it's separate too her lung one they would be able to operate on both, so on the 29th May we received a phone call with the news we had been waiting to hear that she was clear on the spleen, we asked about the liver and they said they still wasn't sure so NOW after all this time now they wanted to do a liver biopsy??? This was frustrating and confusing but they said they wasn't sure what it was on the liver so my Nan had the liver biopsy on the 4th June nearly two months after her initial app where he suspected cancer on the liver???? So we waited for results they said the usual 7-10 days we waited 12 then we tried to get hold of the drs at the hospital and McMillan nurses but as per not answer, so we called her gp and asked and he said he had the results they had them back the day before and asked if we wanted to know, so he confirmed that she has infact got cancer in her liver but... it's two different cancers it's not a spread, made a point of saying that was the better outcome and said I see the lung/liver specialist said about having two ops if it's two separate so wait for them to call and go from there. So yesterday they called and said it's now apparently aggressive we have never been told this before now and that surgery wouldn't work and apparently the one on lung is to close to an airway ??? They've known about the lung lung one for over a month and has been no mention of this before now? And to top it if he said she has 6-12months left I don't understand how they have given us false hope with the ops and now taken that away from her? This has taken 2 months and she has been put through the mill, 2months and nothing no treatment nothing ? Is this right can we get a second opinion is there anything we can do? Any advice I'd be so greatful x

  • Hi Anonymous1989,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It sounds like you've all been through a lot with this and I can understand all the frustration and disappointment to get to this point.

Things have been especially difficult in recent months in terms of waiting times and so on - I'm not sure whether this will have played a part at all but even if it has I appreciate that doesn't help. It may be possible to get a second opinion and you can find out more about that on our website here.

If you'd like to talk anything through with our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
