Neck mass

Hey everyone

i am new here! 5 years ago I had a mass removed from my neck, it was on my 12th cranial nerve. I hve neurofibromatosis (which is a condition where you grow Tumors on nerve endings), and although paralysed half my tongue, it was not cancer which I was greatful for.

7 months ago, I found a lump the same side, but go put it down to swollen lymph node, but 6 months later and three sets of antibiotics they sent me under the 2ww.

in that appointment the scheduled me in for an ultrasound, and a week lter I had a biopsy. They took three biopsy and gave me an appointment for ten V days time. (Sorry forgot to add , he doesn't feel this lump is on a nerve, so therefor not a neurofibroma)

i spoke to receptionist to V see if my results were in and she said they were, but the Dr would discuss the results and treatment plan on Sunday (5 days time). I'm battling with myself, part of me is thinking of it was bad news they would have called me in sooner, but then the other part of me keeps echoing the words the Dr will go over results and treatment plan.

i guess my question is..... if they have the results, and it's bad news would they bring forward my appointment???

thank you all for your help. X

  • Hello Mazabella and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I know it's difficult but try not to read too much in to this as this could be standard procedure and as you've said in your post it will give the doctor the opportunity to go over your results with you and answer any follow up questions you may have.

Many of our members know how tough this time can be so I'm sure some of them will offer their support and advice to you soon but in the meantime, I hope this article I've found on how to cope with waiting for news will help keep your nerves at bay.

Wishing you all the best for Sunday Mazabella.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you so much for getting back to me. I was initial referred to a different speciality, but two days before my appointment for the results I got an urgent Referall to another specialty. I worried myself silly, as I looked the dr up and he was a head and neck cancer specialist.

anyway I went to the results appointment and he said it was out of his expertise, and the Referall will shed a lot more light. The FNA didn't give any definitive answers (good or bad). Just they are pretty sure it's a reactive lumpnode (it's 1.5cm) and need to look into and confirm

Or rule out low grade lymphoma. I'm 34 so hopefully time is on my hands.... but I guess she makes no difference lol.

now another week wait! Thank you again for responding.
