Nearly ten years since being diagnosed with cll

first let me re-introduce myself my name is Jeff alias(dad1929), my first post on this site was in 2010 when I found out I had a blood cancer, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, for which I received chemo in 2010/2011,and I am glad to say that I am doing fine which for anyone out there newly diagnosed I hope you can take some inspiration from the fact i am still here and going strong, despite this dreaded corona virus being around ( God bless all those affected by it),I know that when I first contacted the site it certainly helped me and I was greeted by a lovely man by the name of Tony songhurst who unfortunately past away and also a lovely lady called dizzie who also past away but they were really inspirational people who always kept you going despite their own cancers and i will never forget them, and the many others who were always there for you,so I thought it was about time I updated on my current state of health which is (champion) which we say up here in Newcastle,so for now take care and try to stay positive and keep your chin up,cyber hugs to you all. Jeff alias (dad1929).
  • Hey Jeff!
Great to hear from you and lovely to hear that you're doing champion these days!

I'm sure that at some point in the future a newly diagnosed member will read your post and find comfort in the fact that you've been loving with CLL for so long and that you're doing well.

    Sending our very best wishes,

    Hi Jeff,

It's great to hear from you after such a long time and, to hear that you are keeping well - that's champion!

I first came across this forum in 2010 too, just after my first diagnosis of breast cancer. Like you, I got great support from Dizzie and Tony. Both were inspirational people and, it is so sad that both are no longer with us. I unfortunately had a second bout of breast cancer the following year and, ended up with a double mastectomy, but I've still got a fulfilling life after all this time.

I'm sure that there are many people on this site now who will take inspiration from the fact that we are both still here and doing well - long may it last!

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine

  • Hi jenn thanks for your reply, and as you say if anyone needs or wants to talk about cll then I'm here so feel free,as it always better to talk about things.                                                                                           till then take care.  Jeff

  • Hi jolamine,     It's really nice to hear from you after all this time, and as you say we are proof that things can carry on and time keeps rolling by and hopefully for a lot longer,as now I'm a granda of two,my granddaughter who is three in August and my grandsonwho is only six days old and it is so hard not be able to welcome to our family because of this lockdown but soon maybe I will get the chance,I'm glad to hear that you doing ok despite the double mastectomy,so keep up the good work and let us both fight on  so for now take care and I hope to hear from you again, cyber hugs to you x.                                                          Jeff.

    Hi Jeff,

Well, congratulations on the birth of your new grandson. I expect that you are desperate to meet him in person and to see your granddaughter, who I'm sure is a very proud big sister.  I have 2 granddaughters who are 8 & 12. Unfortunately, we live at opposite ends of the country but Facetime is great, as it gives us a chance to keep in touch.

We shall certainly continue to fight on and, I'm sure that we shall be in touch again.

    Cyber hugs to you too.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi once jolamine,

you are right I cannot wait to meet him and hold him in my arms,my heart is bursting at the moment and the tears roll down my cheeks just thinking of him,as it is when he was born my wife dawn and I had to have our granddaughter for twenty four hours, while her mam and dad were in hospital and she is a real treasure, who certainly keeps you on your toes,so we look forward to the time when can all be together again as a family, and hopefully we can have some kind of answer or control of this corona virus that is causing so much heartache all over the world, you are right about technology and being able to see each other but nothing beats being together.

so thanks once again and keep yourself safe and stay in touch cyber hugs x jeff

  • Hi Jeff, I am so glad I saw your comment! My partner had blood test mont ago, then they told him to repeat it today, and then few hours after blood test he got text message that he needs to repeat blood test! I thought, what, third time, what is wrong with them?! And then I checked his blood test results, started to read about it, and I must say, I started to panic (and I am the last person in the world, who would panic in any situation). I understood now why he needs to wait for another, third test a month. He is not the person to google things, so I am not sure he knows as much as I know, and I don't want to say anything, because both of us then will be worried whole month. So yes, I am worried, can't (don't want to) talk to anyone about it, but I am so happy to find your comment, being so positive. Thank you for that. I hope you are doing well:-)

  • Hi bett sorry it's so late but I couldn't access my account but I'm fine and doing well thanks so hopefully that will bring you both a bit of comfort and hope that things don't always mean that it's bad news and even with what's all going on and my immune system being compromised I've not had any problems until a couple of bouts of man flu which im glad to say im over now and looking forward to a Xmas night out with my old workmates on Saturday night so hopefully everything will go well im having regular check ups and if I have any issues generally get seen very quickly and the fact I have been eating very healthy and exercising a lot for the last year im in really the best condition I've been in since I was younger lol so if I was going to offer any advice I'd say do that and keep believing and hopefully everything will turn out as well for you both just as it is and has done for me so if you want to message me feel free and stay as positive and as strong as you can both of you I know it's not easy especially now but there's always hope so for now take care stay safe and well and bless you both and please don't be scared to talk it helps best wishes for the future and I'll be saying a prayer for you both tonight xx

  • Aww, thank you so much, it made me smile in the morning:-) I am glad you are doing well. My partner is always trying to keeping healthy, so hopefully that will help him ( I am more of pizza and chocolate person:-))Have a lovely weekend, I will definitely let you know after his blood test, now I am thinking it is actually good we need to wait, as it gives you time to cool down. Take care:-)
