Nearly a year after being diagnosed with cervical

Hi Everyone i am new to this chat, A year ago in June i was diagnosed with cervical cancer. I have had 2 lots of major surgery and have now been diagnosed with post-operative neuropatic cancer pain and it sucks. I am taking a melody of different pain killers including tramadol patches, co-codmol, gabapentin, and tramadol for breakthrough pain.

In april this year i had an mri on my spine which nows says i have a hernitaed disc L4/5 and degentative disc disease. I have chatted with my employer and now due to the type of work i do i have to resign from my job as i will not be able to cope with working there any more. I work 12 hour nights shifts in a residental home for people with dementia, mental health illnesses, this is a small home 13 residents spaced over 3 floors with only a stair lift for the residents as most of the residents can walk up and down the stairs. I am waiting now for esa to finish their 13 week assessment period to decide if i can go into one of the support groups or whether i have to try and find a job that does not involve standing too long or walking to far.

  • Hi Carols

You are having things bad.  The Mcmillan helped me they have an adviser based in the citizens advice bureau at our local hospital.  They helped me with all the claims and what I was entitled to some of which I did not know about so fortunatly I was spared the waiting.

Hopefully your case gets assesed properly.  I would have a chat with your Doctor to discuss the degenerative nature and get their assesment regarding working it may prepare you for what you need to do long term.

You have come to the right place here for moral support.

  • Hi carols,

I hope you have found a solution to your work issues and found a way of not having to stand too long or walking too far at work. I thought you might be interested in reading this new post on our forum - vix1977 is sharing similar post-operative issues such as not being able to walk some days. I thought perhaps you two would have a lot to say to each other!

  • Hi carols, reading your post resonates so much with my post op issues. I can only work 10 hours a week now , which some weeks is even a struggle. The issue is, my pain can come out of nowhere.... Certain things do bring it on... But sometimes I can just wake up and it be a no day. Which is frustrating and does seem to be getting worse as time goes on. I have recently had 2 MRI's I'm waiting on the results of the pelvic one. The other was on my spine. My GP said there were some abnormalities but nothing that you wouldn't expect to see with someone of my age ( erm, hello I'm 37) despite asking twice he didn't elaborate. But for my pelvic pain he has prescribed me gabapentine. Which I am unsure about taking until I've had my pelvic MRI results. How has gabapentine worked out for you, if you don't mind me asking, as I'm dubious about embarking on a new reliance on a drug! I hope you are doing ok
