Natural Remedy for Joint Pain caused by Letrozole

Hi,

I have been taking Letrozole for about 4 months now and am experiencing increasingly worse joint pain.  I really hate taking painkillers on a regular basis so am wondering if anyone is using a more natural remedy that works?

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

  • Hello Karen

I know lots of our members here who have taken Letrozole have had similar kinds of side effects. Hopefully if they have any tips to share then they will pop along and let you know.

Have you spoken to the breast care team about your pain? It may be that they are able to offer alternative medications or give you some advice on managing things.

If you'd like to speak to one of our nurses then you're most welcome to call them. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks Jenn.   I have an appointment with my consultant in August and will raise it then ️

I find that taking glucosamine helped - and possibly cod liver oil too (though didn't manage "controlled" situation to be able to check!).

Also have you tried other letrozole brands as I (and many others) have had 3 brands to date with one having really bad impact on joints/aches and current one being significantly less.

I did mention the aches & pains to my BCN and was told that that's just how it is...so manage your expectations!

  • Thanks Sam.  I have been taking glucosamine and cod liver oil, just upped the dose to 2 tablets of glucosamine, but have been told they might take a while to be effective.

Can you remember the brand that had the bad impact?

At the end of the day the benefits are going to outweigh any side effects

  • Hi Kaz

For me Cipla the worst, accord middling and the winner is...Dr Reddys!

But everyone is quite different - if you have a look at breast cancer group on MacMillan there's lots of discussion threads devoted to the subject.

  • Hi kaz

I have been on letrozole accord brand for 4 years. I have only mild joint issues...mostly feet and ankles and that wears off shortly after walking about. My biggest concern is hair thinning. But I don't know if there's any brand better than the other with regard to that. I know someone on accord brand and she has no hair thinning and very mild joint issues. Just have to grin and bear it I think. Xx

    Hi Kaz,

Just a word of warning that some alternative medicines can interfere with your allopathic cancer medication, so check with your breast care team before you try anything new.

i hope that you find something that works.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
