My wife has kidney Cancer

Hello,I'm new to this site.My wife was admitted to hospital on the 8th July with severe vomiting, headache and exhaustion, after a series of scans, blood tests etc,on the following Monday we were told she had cancer in her right kidney, deposits outside the kidney, adrenal gland, bone and lungs.months ago she noticed a lump on her neck, the doctor said nothing to worry about, however she had a biopsy weds and consultant said that beneath lump was another nodule.she is having kidney biopsy Tuesday. All of this is totally overwhelming, she has been told that they will treat it with tablets.Showing my ignorance now are these tablets chemotherapy, will she get associated side effects?sorry for stupid question, but all of this has come as a terrible shock

  • So sorry to hear your news I can't help you much  but there are lots on this site that will. I didn't know that kidney cancer could be treated with tablets so I will be interested to hear the replies

  • Hello Kaz,thank you for your kind words. The reason i say she will be treated by tablets is thats what her oncology nurse told us,whe we were informed of her cancer,i was suprised too,do tablets class as chemo?Jackie is totally needle phobic, maybe thats why.She has a biopsy tuesday,so we will know more then, had biopsy on neck last week, again waiting on results. This is so hard on everyone, only told last week, trying to stay upbeat and stroñg,sometimes though mask slips.I hope things are ok for you Kind regards Troy

  • Hi Troy I'm not a doctor, or qualified so I can only tell you a little.

I had my kidney removed due to a 5 cm tumour in May 2016. The tablets I think you are describing are immunotherapy tablets, because from my und.erstanding chemotherapy does not work on kidney cancer or has very little fact, where as I understand that there re now many immunotherapy drugs that work quite well

I am sure there are a lot of people on here that are on mmunotherapy and they can devise you better than me.

i joined kidney cancer uk via Facebook lots of info on threre

keep in contact and I hope your wife gets all the help she needs asAp. Alan

  • Want to reply to you but site keeps shutting down. Husband has kidney cancer. Can tell you about his treatment. Friend request sent.

  • Hello I knw you posted in july but i'm new to this forum. I expect you might have your answers now but i dont know if i can help. My husband was diagnosed with kidney cancer with secondaries in his lungs. He was put on sutent tablets which according to his last ct scan have caused a small shrinkage in his lungs. They wont consider trying to remove his kidney unless his lung tumours shrink significantly. We are in complete shock to as we were told he had a hernia then came this bombshell, it is a very difficult time for us all but if you need to talk please message me i know what you're going through

    regards

    Elaine
