My husband has been recently diagnosed with Melanoma

Looking for some adice please.

My husband has been diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma.
He has had the offending mole removed from the top of his ear and has to have a large amount of his ear removed, we are struggling to decide whether he should go ahead with a Sentinel Node Biopsy as it is likely to be in his neck.

  • Hi,

This is a dilemma that most Stage 2 melanoma patients have. A SLNB is mainly used for staging purposes rather than a procedure to help prevent progression. I'm assuming the consultant explained it or gave your husband literature to read to help him make a decision that is right for him. Some patients don't have the procedure and have regular ultrasounds instead to monitor for progression. It's really down to whether your husband prefers to have an invasive diagnostic procedure or is happy with ultrasounds and 'watch and wait' check ups. I can't advise from personal experience I'm afraid as my initial melanoma was Stage 1. Good luck with whatever you both decide,

    Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient)

  • Thank you Angie, I hope you are doing well.

Yes we have had a lot of information but not much in the way of williness to discuss alternatives.
