My friend may have lung cancer

I have an ex girlfriend that I am still a good friend too. She got over cervical cancer at 34 by having a full hysterectomy and chemotherapy, 5 years on and she has had a bad cough for a while. An x-Ray has shown a shadow on the lung. She now has to go for a scan on the 10th August. She is so brave and caring, her two young children don't know anything. I fear the worse. And I'm scared. I'm a 43 year old strong male, but since finding out three days ago, I've done nothing but cry and be fearful of the worst. She is currently the n holiday in France and will bbe back on the 9th. I'm a wreck and I don't know what to do. Please help.

  • Hi Gary,

Your ex-girlfriend is very lucky to have a good relationship with you as you sound a very caring, supportive friend.

Most of us feel the way you're feeling prior to tests and results, but somehow, once we know what we're dealing with, it becomes easier to cope.

Just 'be there' for your friend and take your cues from her about the level of support she needs. Post on the forum as often as you need to as you may find it helps to offload to virtual others who understand what you're feeling.

    Take care, Jo x
