My dad recently diagnosed with skin cancer

My had had a growth removed many years ago but was never told what it was by his dr. The last few years he’s noticed it again and dr said scar tissue, he showed another dr last month and was referred urgently to hospital. The consultant said BCC and had him in 2 days later to remove it. BCC was removed as was the growth underneath. He went today to see  the consultant who said the growth was cancerous and he needs another op to remove more tissue that looks suspect. They want to do a pep scan also and have done his bloods today.  I am absolutely terrified at the speed of everything but also grateful to our NHS for his fast treatment. Has anyone else had anything similar? I’m so worried and feel scared that they want to do a pep scan. He sees the consultant and plastic surgeon next week to discuss the removal of more tissue and will be given a date for this 2nd op and the scan. They did all his bloods today also and said in a month they should have all the results back.

  • Hello AB77,

Welcome to our forum. Your dad seems to be in excellent hands and it's great that they are being so efficient and so quick with the investigations. I hope everything went well with the scan and the blood tests.

We have some information on our website on Basal Cell Carcinoma which you can read here and I hope you will meet others here who have also been diagnosed with BCC and that they will share their experience with you. I thought I would mention [@veronica_3]‍ who just posted today and is about to have surgery for BCC. You can read her story on this thread and feel free to respond if you wish. I am sure you will have a lot to say to one another.

I hope your dad's appointment with the consultant and plastic surgeon goes well next week and best of luck too for him with the 2nd operation. I hope he won't have to wait long for it. Keep us updated on how things progress if you get a moment.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you Lucie for your reply. My dad had a pep scan tomorrow and an appointment Wednesday to see his consultant and a plastic surgeon. Since my post I’ve had more information from my mum, the cancerous growth was beneath the BCC on top of his skin, both have been removed but now more tissue needs to be taken away and he needs scans to check it hasn’t spread elsewhere. We are just praying hard now the scans come back clear. The last two days since diagnosis have been horrendous, we have cried so much and feel in total shock but it is good the dr’s are moving so fast. Thank you for your kind words.

  • hi Lucy, ive not had mine taken out yet, got told last Monday and they said I will hear soon, hope all goes well
