My dad only has a few weeks

Hi

I'm new to this but feel so alone. My dad got diagnosed in August with lung cancer and brain tumors. He had radiotherapy for the tumors and started chemo and autoimmune for his lungs.

The treatments made him feel unwell and last week came down  with a chest infection and had to be hospitalised to receive IV antibiotics. We saw the consultant before he was discharged who advised him that the cancer had spread to both lungs, his lymph nodes and liver and it appears that the treatment is not working.

With this being said my dad decided to stop the treatment and the hospital agreed and said he could have between 2 - 6 weeks.

He has taken everything so well and I'm a sobbing wreck, I'm trying to do my best but its so hard he's only 67 and it's not fair. I also lost my mum in 2019 to lung cancer, so I'm completely lost. I'm going to do whatever I can for him, but any advice on how to cope would be much appreciated xxx

  • Hello.

I have just read your post and know how desperate you must feel. I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer and just beginning to use websites to research what the future holds.

As far as your father is concerned all you can do right now is to let him know he is loved and make his end of life as peaceful and happy a time as possible.

I have a friend who is having immunotherapy and she told me that it either works or it doesn't.

Your Dad will probably begin to accept the inevitable.

You will be sad and angry but make the most of the time you have.
