My dad has gallbladder cancer. ADVISE NEEDED ASAP PLEASE

hi my dad has been recently diagnosed with stage 3 gall bladder cancer and has been told it is inoperable, and will only have palliative chemotherapy.

My dad has has 2 stents applied to his lymph nodes and bile ducts , but the cancer has spead out side the lymph nodes and bile ducts, his biopsy was inconclusive and has to be redone this Tuesday but he has already been told the stage and 12/18mths.

he has been home a week and been feeling ok no pain up till now. Last night my dad was in agony with pains in his stomach and said he felt like he has flu symptoms where your body aches all over, he has some morphine and feel ok this morning but my mum has said he has a constant aching in his let arm. I am really worried as I feel this is not normal but my dad does not want a fuss. I need advise as I think he may need to go back in hospital and checked out. Is this a normal effect of the cancer or not? I am a very worried daughter and my mum was really worried last night as he was really poorly, can that’s not my dad, please can anyone advise us? am i looking to much into it ? Please as there is no one we know who we can ask?

Thanks p

  • Hi Dizzydawn79 and welcome to the forum.

If your dad has any contact numbers for his medical team it may be worth getting in touch to discuss this with them. If that's not an option and you're worried about how he may get on tonight then it may be worth giving the NHS 111 service a call to see if they can help. If you think he'll be ok until tomorrow then do get in touch with his GP and explain what has happened as it may be possible for him to have an emergency appointment.

Our cancer nurses phone service will be available tomorrow if you'd like to have a general chat with them about your dad's diagnosis as well. Their freephone number is 0808 800 4040 and their lines will be open between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope this helps Dizzydawn79 and that you hear from some of our other members who have been in similar situations with their loved ones soon.

    Best wishes to you all,
