My dad and prostate cancer

My amazing dad got diagnosed with prostate cancer on Tuesday. He has just turned 58. He only found out as he went to the doctors with a sore back and the doctor recommended a psa blood test. His psa was 10 so the doctor referred him to have an mri. From the mri scan, he then had a biopsy. The biopsy revealed the cancer. His Gleason score is 7 but luckily it hasn’t spread. I’m so devastated and terrified. I’m so close to him, I can’t bare the thought of losing him. It’s all I think about everyday. The hospital have offered him either radiotherapy or surgery to remove the prostate. I think he wants to go for the surgery. If you saw him you wouldn’t know he has cancer. He is young for his age, still working, very active and it isn’t stopping him from doing the things he enjoys. I’m trying to stay positive but the word ‘cancer’ is so scary. I would love to hear some positive stories/outcomes.

  • Hi welcome to the forum the club nobody wants to join,.

There are a few good gentlemen had your father's options , [@woodworm]‍ ,had radiotherapy , [@telemando]‍  had his out, both were years ago i might add and still come on now and again.

im a bit different my cancer had spread to the lymph nodes spine ribs pelvis and a lung I was diagnosed Feb 2016 , PSA was 1580 stage 4 it was classed as palative care I was still working, metal fabrication and welding firm for two years before I had to retire to look after my wife she has Alzheimer's and Parkinson's plus other problems.

i was 64when diagnosed,no symptoms just kept being Sick, turned out to be hiatus hernia, but one of the blood results showed something else so had PSA ,.

There are loads of others come on forum get cured and leave to carry on with life and living.

Hopefully you will hear from others soon.

    Take care keep positive.
