It will be a terrible shock for all of you.

If you can't get back I would call them often, and try to get home even if its only for a day.

First of all, Alex, it may be best if you can actually find out what is happening with your dad.  Has he just been diagnosed?  I expect your mum and dad are still trying to come to terms with the diagnosis themselves.  Please don't get too upset until you know the facts, there is so much being done these days in the way of treatment for bowel cancer.  You need to be positive about your dad and this will help you all.
