Mum with Possible Cancer

I don't know who else to turn to, I'm absolutely terrified. My mum, who is in her 70's has just had a hip replacement, was recovering so well and then a week ago became incredibly jaundiced. Due the the CV the GP sent a district nurse to take blood, they said she was aneamic and she had to go to the hospital for an ultrasound. They called her to say there was an abnormailty with her liver but didn't know what so were referring it to a specialist. She called her GP the next day and they said that she needed another diferent scan (she said she wasn't sure what kind of scan, I'm wondering if she did but isn't telling me to protect me) and would send her an appointment letter in the next two weeks or so. She says she feels absolutely fine, she is incredibly jaundiced though. I've convinced myself it's cancer as it very much sounds like that. She is on her own and because of the virus I have been trying to avoid going as much as possible (I've not been at work but my partner has) I don't know what to do... my aniety is already at an all time high due to the virus let alone this... she's never had a drink in her life, she was pretty healthy apart from her hip. I can't lose her.

  • Hi louharg81, I had to reply to your concerns because 4 weeks ago I had a hysterectomy and to cut a long story short after a couple of blood tests my liver enzymes were high and before my operation they were normal so before they would discharge me from hospital a had to have an ultrasound scan of my liver, which I did and everything looked fine, the consultant said that this is quite common after an operation, they asked me to go for a repeat test at my gp surgery a week later which I did and it was still high so 3 days later I had to have another one but this one was a full blood count and they also tested for hepatitis, needless to say I was very worried, anyway the test came back OK so plz try not to worry I was specifically told that it's quite common after surgery and it does go back to normal, I hope it will be the same for your mum

  • Thank you for responding, I do hope you're right. It's just when they said an 'abnormality' She had a blood tranfusion when she was in hospital, the Doctor did say the jaudiced could be post op jaundiced. But thank you for the small glimmer of hope. I hope you are recovering well and ok during these hard times.x
